Can't see other player's base - Am I doing something wrong?
I got the portal coordonnates to another player's planet. I used a portal to get there, and when I did, the system and planet showed as "new", as if I had just discovered it and was the first one there.

I recognize the area from that player's game: same planet, same lake next to the portal, same hill where his base "should" be, same Alien Artifact down the hill. I'm in the correct location in every way...except there's no base. It's as if my game wasn't synching with his.

Other players did make it there, building bases around his, so the issue isn't on his end.

Like him, I'm on Steam PC, Normal Mode, Euclid Galaxy, Multiplayer is turned on (I can see plenty of other players when I'm in the Nexus, and am able to join multiplayer missions).

Am I doing something wrong?

I've heard some unclear thing about the fact that travelling by portal can be the cause. Pinning the system with a custom marker to warp there could take forever (just warped several times and covered 30,000 light years and I don't feel any closer), he could be a million light years across the galaxy for all I know.

No, multiplayer is buggy, Play Single, than the the game is fairly good !
There is nothing usefull and working, when trying to do multiplayer, only frustration. Don't !

Use no man's sky connect to get there a lot faster. If you use a portal i dont think you can leave that system, make a base or anything like that. If you try and use the stations teleporter it will say portal interference.

Yeah, but shouldn't I at least be able to see other bases located there, or see that the planet has been discovered by Player X instead of showing it as a new planet?

HG has placed a block in the game, when traveling with the Portal, the teleport does not work, the star map does not work and BC disappears from the build menu, so you cannot build a base, in addition all bases within 1000u from the Portal are invisible, to prevent players builds traps around the portal.

That would explain it: all the bases I was referring to were all settled around the portal.

So, is there any way around my issue? How can I get to that system besides using a portal? Jumping from system to system doesn't feel realistic, for all I know it could be on the opposite side of the galaxy.

I've noticed sync issues too with a friend last weekend, we couldn't see each other at all even while in a group.

Join a friends game who is already there.

Did you find how how far away you were?

Not sure since Beyond...but what has worked is to go via portal first...this will add it to your discoveries list. Then, you can travel there via warp and black holes using Black Hole Suns website. You should also use Pilgrim Star Path site...it provides mapping and tells you if you need to go down or up in relationship to the location you want.

You may have to complete the Atlas mission to gain access to black holes. Depending on how far away you are from where you want to be...black holes can really shave off a lot of warping.

OK, I used a portal, planted a Signal Booster to get the "Galactic Address" NMC needed to manually add the location. Then, I used NMC to teleport myself to that location, loaded NMS and my game, and sure enough, I was at that location without being location-locked by an active portal.

However, original issue seems to be the same: I can't see any bases in the system, and the system and specific planet still registers as a system I'm the one who discovered recently.

So, I'm still stuck with the issue of my game not synching with Hello Games' servers, at least when it comes to this specific system (I've been in other systems marked as discovered by other players).

I found this article which explains some of what it means to be "multiplayer" in No Man's Sky:
https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2019-08-16-no-mans-sky-multiplayer-explained-5109#targetText=Instead%2C%20No%20Man's%20Sky's%20multiplayer,Sky%20patch%20notes%20for%20Beyond.

I've been trying to understand this myself. First thing to know, there are no servers in No Man's Sky. If you want to see other player's bases, the best way is to join their game.

You can meet other players in the Anomaly and go on missions with them. I tried this, it didn't seem to work to well for me, so never did it again.

There is that portal in the Anomaly. Apparently you can save your base there. I assume you can teleport to those bases from it, but have yet to try that either.

Good luck on figuring this out. I've been playing the game a little over three weeks and am still completely confused about so many of the features of this game :steamhappy:

Cracktus Jack Sep 6, 2019 @ 6:57pm
I've been playing single-player for months, and have been looking at many of the multiplayer features from the Beyond update, waiting for enough patches to be released to be able to use it.

Ever since the Next update, if a player built a base on a planet and you went on that planet, the base was there, plain and simple. With the Beyond update, you need to have multiplayer turned on, but again, if the base is there, you see it. I saw the player's gameplay footage where he was on the planet, simply turned on his multiplayer, and the bases just appeared. I'm on the same planet, looking at the same place, and I don't see a base.

Also, since the earliest of versions, if a player named a planet or system and you went to that planet or system, you saw "discovered by Planet X" and the system and planet would have the name the original player gave it. But I go in the system, same "original name", but it doesn't have the customized name and it says that I'm the one who discovered the system, as if no one was there before.

It doesn't make sense. It's as if we weren't on the same platform, but we are: Steam PC, both.
Eekhoorn Sep 6, 2019 @ 11:32pm
I doubt this has anything to do with a portal, but more with multiplayer itself.

A while ago I tried to build a base together with a Steam friend, but that didn't work out so well. When he was offline I could not see his base computer let alone his buildings. When he was online, buildings would constantly become invisible and we had to fly of planet and reenter to load the scene again.

NMS is not really a MP game if you ask me. The new MP is a joke. I stick to single player... that's where the game shines.
Cracktus Jack Sep 8, 2019 @ 7:12am
I've spent several hundred hours playing that game is SP (which is more than I can say for most AAA games), and now I was looking forward to MP.

"Sticking to SP" is not a solution to the problem I'm facing. I don't expect nor want an MMO experience, I just want to use the features the game does have, features that are currently working for other people, and is apparently working for me, too, save for the aforementioned issue in this post.
