PSA: This is how you power multiple bases from 1 hotspot
I got tired of explaining this to threads with OP's that don't pin answers, and everyone keeps asking the same question, so here it is:

I'm going to explain what I did, I don't have a video, but I'm going to make it simple and pose a setting:

1. Find power hotspot that you want and place a new base computer on it. Let's say you name it
"Electric base " for easy reference. Do not place a generator yet.

2. Go back to your home base, let's pretend you named it "home base" in the computer for reference. Select wiring in your building menu "power" tab. Make sure the tooltip say's "editing home base". Start from home base running the wire to the power hotspot.

3. Once you get the wires to the hotspot, just leave them on the ground unconnected. Finally, you select your electromagnetic generator in the build menu. But, since now you're in the realm of the "electric base" base computer, you will have to make sure the tooltip for the generator says "editing home base" and not "editing electric base" before you place the generator. You do this by pressing middle mouse to scroll bases. Once the generator is editing the proper base, place it down and connect the wire, also making sure that the last of the wire is editing home base.

You can't have a generator designated for "electric base" but wires designated for "home base". They all have to be congruent or it will not siphon power. Now "home base" will be powered by "electric base" because the generator + wires are all editing home base.

If you want to run power from this same hotspot to another base, just repeat the steps: run wires from the other base to the hotspot, plop down a 2nd electromagnetic generator but make sure the new generator says it's editing that new base in the tooltip just before you place it.

The problem people are having is probably connecting wires that are editing one base to a generator that's editing another because they are not paying attention to which base the tooltip is editing. Don't cross the streams.

One thing I will say is that since the living ship update, exotic planets seem to work on different rules for which resources get generated there, and perhaps the spacing rules too?

I was trying not to do the whole "I'm X, so I'm right", so hopefully it didn't come across that way. I'm really busy for the next 9 to 10 hours, but I'll try to get something tonight. I am at least a little curious if I could have been that wrong ;)

You didn't come across that way. I just have respect for content creators & modders. Good that you're humble, I've had so many people argue with me recently that I've dropped all pretense & secrets & just been honest about my experience & ties to HG, I find it shuts a lot of trolls up quite quickly. I'm interested to see your results. :-)

i'm having YUGE problems with power to a mine, if I fight with it enuff get some to work (with 2 bases) till I try and add more, then the new won't be powered. It's a S geomagnetic, a number of them, I'm not running out of power, just won't go the distance. I'll show blue lines to a battery but the no juice symbol above, and showing zero juice in the battery. A single base I can't extend beyond 290 meters. The menus immediately change and only allow for the portables to be placed...

Only use ONE base per planet!
1) First upload your base, save, exit game & reload.
2) Now stand at 300u from base computer and place a battery or depot.
3) Start a wire or piping from said battery or depot & walk around 50u until menu changes again.
4) Take a step back & build new battery or depot.
5) Continue wire or piping & it'll remember that you'd started it already. Place on new battery or depot.
6) Repeat steps 3-5.

7) If hot-spot is just out of the 1000u range, while stood at 1000u, go into build camera mode. You'll be able to build out even further, around another 250u in some cases.

I am currently surveying a planet and I have found 3 copper S,S, B, 2 oxygen B and C, B salt, and paraffinium A class. All within roughly 1200u of each other. No power spot unfortunately.

Does that fall within the parameters you are talking about? Or should I be able to find a power spot in the area?

You should also be able to find a power hotspot. Sounds about right, otherwise. :-)
If there's water nearby, bear in mind hotspots can be in the water. They care nothing about the terrain.

Found an A spot 900u out diagonally from both Copper S class hotspots.

on my home planet, the nearest hotspot is clear on the other side of the planet. Do I need to build the universes largest base, or is there another method to get wiring to the hotpot location? also the planet has oceans so, how do i string the wire across the water

ok, finally found a closer power hotspt, but i am running into the same issues. I can only run the wiring or a series of wiring connected end to end so far before the ability to lay down wire disappears. could you explain in more detail how to lay down the wiring for the home base to the hotspot?

Thank you for this post, and all the comments by other contributors. I was struggling with both the idea of expanding base boundaries and running power. The OP's text and many of the other comments have allowed me to see where I was going wrong. Staying with the OP's text I now have a power hotspot linked to a mine that is technically on a different base. Now to explore the options for expanding base boundaries and see if I can change my two base set up into a single larger base area. Thanks to all contributors.

Two years later, and this is still extraordinarily helpful. Thank you!

Why I still sub to it even now

I don't understand. Place the bases: good to go.
Connect the wire at the home base: sure
Place the wire on the ground at the second base: cannot build, connection too long.

I'm still editing the home base, but that doesn't make the connection within the size limit.
