Plasma Launcher, most self inflicted deaths ever
I think I died maybe 4 or 5 times out of about 3 dozen that were not self inflicted plasma launcher deaths (yeah only had it a couple weeks). have this bad habit on right clicking all the time.. I think from old MMO habits I developed over the years, but man its brutal on myself in this game

I killed myself once with the grenade launcher. I have upgraded it. Quicker speed on bombs, twice the blast area and 2.8 times more damage. I destroy the facory's door in 3 hits. I am in before the sentinels understand what append.

I just remove the plasma grenade/geo grenade thing entirely myself, its too risky.

Just dont load it until you need it.

I was 18+ hours into a permadeath game and had no clue the plasma launcher would instakill even with full 9 health full shields luckly somehow alt+4F plus turning my computer off real fast saved me somehow, but still what idiot game designer thought to have a bouncing AOE right click item be in a game like this where people can be countless hours in a permadeath world and have it all destroyed like this?

11-month necro :steamfacepalm: but anyhoo... just put the plasma launcher on an entirely separate multitool and only equip when needed. Problem solved.

Today - with better game knowledge - I recommend to simply install the Defensive Shield and activate it with MM button if you don't use the grenade, problem solved.

moved secondary weapon use, i break any grenade/launcher as soon as i get it

died once by using shield while to close to an object, died by placing object and being to close to it..

seems like all these deaths are trolling by developers against players

that is freaking genius! have 1 tool as mining and 1 as attack with plasma. that way you can also have more mining upgrades and more attack upgrades

A good protip to alleviate this problem, is having a mouse with side buttons (forward and backward while browsing) and remap the fire grenade to one of those buttons.
I have a Logitech 502 Hero and remapped it to the G5 button and no more deaths since then 👌

The plasma does not work as it did back in 2019. Originally you could click RMB and it would go off. Now it takes a one click to raise the weapon and a second to fire. So it better than it was but still something to be careful about.

Good suggestions by some experienced players on how to solve the problem as a player. Problem with the controls has since been adjusted by the NMS team overall, but I have not played in a while (will get back in soon).

But, the cursory defense of poor GUI and keybinding choices by dev team's by some, which any game player can determine within a few hours of play with a grenade launcher in No Man's Sky is a big mistake, clearly highlight a terrible reality that has become almost common in current game development since 2010 or so.

That is, that the devs design controls almost as if they (the devs) HAVE NEVER PLAYED A GAME. That is absolutely stunning to understand and patently ridiculous. Can there really be such a divide between developers and players that the love to build games and play games is that far apart an experience??

It may just be that quality control is not job 1 nor even job 208 anymore (and old Ford commercial reference "Quality is Job 1"). What quality control seems to be nowadays is some farcical cooperation between developers who don't do it and Early Access Players too busy learning the game and kissing up to the devs to get it done either. Maybe that is why the devs should not be able to ban people from forums or influence such decisions, but one can't say that the power structure is even in any case between a dev and a player-fan.

That any designer or dev team does not or cannot have on their team multiple devs who also have the game playing experience to see terrible control functionality that will harm many game players during gameplay is the kiss of death problem. Or is it just that devs don't really ever play their own game, or don't do so in any way other than a very specific way to test the last piece of code they just thru in there (rather than revisit some commonly used code that is now influenced or ruined by the code they just slapped up, like a new and idiotic keybinding?)

How can it be their Job 1, if they don't even understand what it is like to play their own game?

Let that question really sink into your head and realize how bad and how sad the state of affairs really is. It's like idiots who are programmers who say both "Computers are just dumber than children and have to be taught by us to do anything at all, amazed they can do anything" and yet say "Fuzzy logic will allow the A.I. to go ahead and adjust itself to learn on its own." Yeah, right, like those two concepts really combine to build the confidence in anything but an accident. Hey, it's okay, we didn't design Skynet so we can't be blamed, but oopsidaisies I didn't realize that Fuzzy Logic and Child-brained dev designed A.I. would lead to disaster. Really? I mean ... REALLY?

If you don't play like a player what you design as a coder, you will eventually run into the great divide issue. The development is too far away from the actual gameplay experience and so you don't know what the heck you TRULY ARE BUILDING on a concrete, human, and personal player. So you can't even take true responsibility for what you made. AKA, Skynet is not detected during coding and testing, but only after it destroys the world.

True about all science, philosophy, or crafting. If you don't experience it, you can't know the reality of what you are doing, only the reality of what you INTENDED to do. Which is ...claptrap in the end as a method to achieving success.

Why not just switch to a different secondary weapon? Or a different multitool for that matter :D
