Auto Light switching
I am trying to have a light on and when the proximity switch detects that light goes off and another light goes on. If i can get this to work for one set i could put more lights in.

Example picture :-

In the picture i would like to have the red light on and when approached the red goes off and the green goes on.
The power inverter has a green and a red side so i thought that implied a power on and power off side but it doesnt seem to matter.

In the picture i would have thought the green light would be out as the inverter has red lights on that side.
Am I missing something? Should i add another type of switch ?

There is another device you need to use called the ‘Auto Switch’ (name makes no sense to me).

The ‘Inverter is basically a negative gate (middle terminal) power transistor.

The ‘Auto Switch’ is basically a positive gate power transistor.

Use the Inverter to turn a light OFF when the proximity detector turns on.

Use the Auto Switch to turn a light ON when the proximity detector turns on.

Power one side of the inverter. The middle terminal is the signal, and the other side of the inverter is the opposite of whether there's power present on the middle terminal. The inverter 'inverts' whatever power signal is present on the middle terminal: middle terminal on, output terminal off; middle terminal off, output terminal on.

Think about that for a while and sketch out a wiring diagram. You can make it work.

You only need 1 inverter, 1 prox switch and 2 lights. Given the T shape of inverter the power comes from the left and goes to the right. That should connect to the red light. Next you have power going to prox switch and going to bottom of T and to green light. So, when prox is on it'll turn on green light and turn off the red light. If you're going to connect this to a door have the inverter out line split to door and red light.

Thank you everyone for your responses. I now know what i need to do .

The Auto Switch was what i was after. having the 2 switches described as positive and negative gates really helped me understand it logically, thanks Zuleica.
A circuit diag was what i was going for when i put the idea onto the wall, i tried a few combinations with the inverter but it is what it is.

The end result is that the red light is on with the green off and as approached the power switches polarity and the red goes off with the green coming on. I want to make a ring of there and use it under my moon pool floor for effect.

"Use the Auto Switch to turn a light ON when the proximity detector turns on."

...Would surely read as not requiring the auto-switch. I think it should be renamed to the logic it is.
