HTC Vive (Pro) wireless -> laggy / HTC Vive wired -> smooth VR gameplay
As reported earlier I have laggy VR when using my HTC Vive Pro with a Wireless adapter. Looking at the SteamVR frame rate monitor I get clusters of magenta spikes every few seconds when moving. This corresponds with blurriness in the game. this basically makes the game unplayable

Tried a wired 'normal' HTC Vive and VR gameplay is smooth as can be at ultra settings. Walking, flying, planet entry etc. The magenta spikes are very seldom and not comparable to the situation above. It does not break immersion in game at all.

Reduced the resolution on my Pro to 58% matching the resolution of the 'normal' HTC Vive. The issue remains. It seems that somehow the wireless adapter is the cause. I don't have this behavior in other games.

Until this is solved I guess I will be using the 'normal' Vive.

I must admit that playing this game in VR is really something. Sitting in your cockpit flying through asteroid fields with a planet backdrop, flying alongside capital ships somehow touches an emotional level. Really cool experience.

Would be nice if this gets solved so that I can enjoy the game with my Vive Pro.

System i7, 32GB, SSD and RTX 2080TI

PCVR has had CPU limiting issues since launch which only recently have been reduced. Wireless Vive is known for requiring a lot of CPU cycles and conflicts with games which are CPU limited. Seems pretty obvious to me that this would be expected behavior, unfortunately.

Hopefully with further tweaking HG can make wireless possible.

Wireless need more a lot more CPU. You probably need at least 6 core, probably 8 or more core CPU.

Can confirm now that the wireless adapter is the problem. Wired my Pro and now VR is smooth at ultra settings.

It's the nature of the beast if the image is complex and fast changing. The CPU has a lot of work to do to compress up the image, if it changes a lot, then the CPU works harder.

*especially if your CPU is older than 1 or 2 years*

My wireless is fine most of the time. Most...

Rarely, yes, if I turn quickly/teleport a long way very fast so there is a lot of redraw and I get blurriness for a moment as it catches up, otherwise my computer can keep up with it.

I'm willing to pay that price to get wireless freedom. Tethered VR ended up with me or my chair tangled in cords.
