Ship control
Am I missing something?
Are there controls for vertical lift and descent?
The ship can do it itself when landing or lifting off. Then as soon as you have control you have to pull up or away to try to prevent dinging the trading station.
Pinpoint landings would be easier if there was a way to come to a stop and hover. Any thoughts about that for the future?

No, there isn't. I think the way its meant to work is that the launch thrusters are used to keep the ship afloat while you move slowly over the planet surface (blowing air) and it also does that to land safely and the little bit of lift (like nowaday planes use to fly) is why it moves forward

There are mods on the Nexus for hover, however as the author of one, I can tell you there's no vtol settings in the spaceship file. Also, it will never be done by the devs because it's a cheat that enables you to hover in front of a supply depot or warehouse and blast away from the safety of your ship.

you can still move really frikinn slowly and pull that off. and in space you can stand still completely.

seems to depend on ships though. they feel different? idk is that just placebo effect?

They just need too add pirate ships and basses to planets problem solved. This game doesn't have enough of a threat anyway. As it should my opinion or at least a difficulty setting for pirates and AI.

There are dedicated controls in the game options for ship control. I find it better to change the setting to the 2nd one which will revert to simple controls found in early versions of the game.

Control Options > Flight Control > Locked Normal

The British had to refine VTOL for routine military use because unlike nations with more landmass they had no room for more airstrips and no fleet of non-Harrier carriers. ;-)

This. I knock out most missions from my ship. I'm sure there's a more aesthetic or mechanical reason as to why they don't want ships to hover.

well i kinda like it. makes the ships feel real. i mean. they have limitations. every vehicle has them.

in space you can even fly backward. makes it feel like planets have atmosphere.

Where do you get this claptrap?
Mind you according to the rest of the world we invented slavery even though we one of the first to abolish it and helped to abolish it elsewhere, so I'm not really surprised you think we live on a little island with barely enough room to fart in Edinburgh without someone smelling it in Cornwall.

NMS is kind of the Swiss army knife of space games. As a result, it does not have super polish on a lot of the individual elements. It just does all of them pretty adequately.

Very little happens in space, so the ship controls are basic. Good enough to take care of some pirates or get you to a planet, but not really intended for epic space battles or trying to avoid ever landing on the ground.

Most of the game is intended to played on foot, on planet.

Pro tip: trying for pinpoint landings is the major cause of getting stuck in buildings. They gave you space boots for a reason...use 'em.

Why do sweet little pro's always think everyone else is a virgin?

That confession reveals more than you would willingly disclose about yourself, and it's not flattering. That you didn't realize what you were disclosing while doing it is also not flattering. If I were you, I'd shut up and find a rock under which to hide.

After you crawl out, seek training, therapy, or classes to help you recognize your problem with literalism and learn to avoid repeating the amusingly errant condescending behavior in your last post.

I am able to 'hover' in VR but not in normal. Either one will likely get "fixed" soon.
