"Community research" is what exactly?
so are their quests with the title on it that progresses that or what? VERY vague, (yes I know it tells me to talk to, they say nothing about it, and no there isn't anything on my Nexus for "Community Missions or Research"

Any mission you complete from the Nexus counts as "community research," as those missions are all sponsored directly by Nada and Polo. The "tiers" unlock only when everyone on a given platform (I assume) have together completed a certain number of those missions.

I was under the impression it's only the quicksilver rewarding missions rather than 'Any nexus mission'; in NEXT it was quicksilver missions that gave community progress, but they had a slightly different format.

@OP: It's worth noting that the 'community research' bar is contributed to by the entire playerbase. You're not expected to try fill it in all by yourself, it's unlikely a lone player could even make a visible dink in the bars progress if they went balls to the wall grinding missions.

Your comment led me to doubt myself - never a bad thing, really - which sent me looking for the patch notes at https://www.nomanssky.com/2019/09/beyond-development-update-2/

Here's what it says:
Very soon, we will be launching a community event, with new content available to earn from the Space Anomaly. Each mission completed at the Nexus will contribute to a cross-reality target for all Travellers. Universal progress will unlock a series of exotic items synthesised by Polo’s robotic companion, available to purchase with Quicksilver.
I take "each mission completed at the Nexus" to be mean "any mission." At least, that's what I hope it means!

The good news is that Tier 4 unlocked today!
