My pc just turns off
I start the game and after a few minutes of playing the game crashes, in which the pc just turns off - this happens only in NMS - no other game triggers this behavior of my pc - I have already tried many things, e.g. graphics settings - after a few minutes playing the pc just reboots - without error message ... - I despair here, since this problem occurs only since the update (I think about) 1.2 ... can anyone help me

sounds like your computer is overheating. make sure dust is cleaned out of it using compressed air, that's the usual culprit for overheating computers. NMS does task the CPU more than most games.

Most likely a CPU hardware failsafe due to overheating. Run a hardware monitor in the background to be sure.

overheating or intermittent power failure due to aging or dirty components.

you could check your event viewer to see what errors its registering during a crash/sudden restart, if any. just make note of the time it happens and check errors registered during that time.

just in case no one is aware of this, seems the last decade or so of Intel chips is fatally flawed.

so before you start scrutinizing your hardware too much, i'd take look through these articles and consider how they may be affecting your system. however, i don't think it would hurt to perform a few system scans to root out any potential issues.

in addition to this i would have to agree with the overheating suggestion, as it does sound as if thats whats happening.

Meltdown and Spectre aren't problems that cause computers to randomply shut down. They are problems that allow hackers to extract sensitive information (such as passwords) from memory.

It sounds like a heat thing. Do you hear your fans running hard? If you have a utility to monitor system temps check that too - esp to see if you're hot at idle. NMS can be a pretty demanding software and might push over top if heat is already issue.

^ I agree witht the post above, sounds like heat.
Crack open the case and blow all the dust bunnies out.

If the PC is restarting, check to make sure your PC isn't set to restart in case of a system failure.

Your BIOS should also show if you have high tempratures if you restart right away. Or install one of those apps that shows the CPU/GPU temps in the task bar and let it run in windowed mode for a while to see what it gets to. Or as someone said, it could be the power supply can't keep up with the load either.

As others have said this will be a hardware problem. Check the Windows Event Log for an error code. When this happened to my pc it was the Windows Event ID 41 'Kernel-Power' - basically my PSU was getting old and could no longer supply enough power to run NMS (which tends to run GPUs at maximum).

EDIT - Check for dirty/failing fans, dust bunnies etc, also for loose power connections/cables before blaming your PSU!

If your error is down to a failing power supply this is a really good site with advice on the best (and worst) PSUs -

I used an online Power Supply Calculator to work out how many watts my pc required then added an extra 200W as a safety margin. The EVGA SuperNova G2 series (Tier 1) was the best value for money when I bought mine early last year.

definitely heat or power related.. systems will shut off automatically when temperatures peak over a certain limit.. and of course, if the power supply isn't able to put out sufficient enough power to everything in the PC, you could also suffer a crash due to insufficient power.. especially if the graphics card is too powerful for the CPU to support (an issue common with several year old processors and new video cards)..

I had issues like that for months. It was the power supply, even if it was a pretty good one, it died after 2 years. So the best thing to do is to connect the power supply of one of your friend's computer to try it out !

Wow, thanks for all the answers, I will look into it

I have heat monitoring on my other screen while playing NMS and sometimes cores on my CPU reach 70C. It's usually around 50C just like the graphic card. So be aware of the overheating :flammable::flammable::flammable:

If your temps do not go over the threshold, it migh be gpu driver or a corrupted file causing a fatal error.

Look at your system event logs under the applications tab, find the time the shutdown happened and read the error log. I know it might look like mumble jumbo but a 0x00... can clue you into an issue. Skyrim did the same thing for me and it was a corrupted file that required a game wipe. BulletStorm on the other hand pointed to a Ram issue. Hope its the first and good luck.
