Rare Starships
Is there a better way to find rare starships? So far I've been following the Atlas Path and chilling in space stations waiting. My reasoning being: I'm near a rare thing (Atlas Station) so maybe the chances of a S class or exotic ships goes up?. So far that hasn't worked. feelsbadman

In my experience, exotics have been much easier to find than standard S class. I have an S class fighter, and have seen a single (small) S class hauler and a single S class shuttle (who cares). I currently have 3 exotics, and have traded one of them in twice and passed on several others.

The trick is to find a high-wealth star system, find a trading post, land, get out of your ship, and look around to see what's coming in. If you don't see an exotic, reload the last save (should just take a few seconds), and look again. Do that that for a bit and one will surely show up.

Are wealthy systems usually more dangerous in terms of conflict level?

Not that I know of, but I don't usually pay attention to the conflict level.

Okay. Thanks for the advice

Regular "S" class ships spawn in "Wealthy" systems with a chance of 2%, in "Average" systems 1% and "Poor" systems have zer0% spawns.
You can judge from reading in the description and from the general amount of rescources available from trading options what system you are currently in.

Exotics are an exception. You´ll find one kind in every system, and so far they´ve been always "S".

The mentioned SpaceStation and Trading outposts are the way to go, if you want to get one, but be prepared that it can be a while... If you are really lucky you can find an S-ship on a crash site (Exotics as well btw).

(Be aware that some of that might change with the next update of the game... we´ll have to see ;)

^^ This is entirely incorrect. you get S class ships in any system at approx the same chance, you certainly can get them in "poor" systems etc.

I've seen Exotics in about every system type. But the S class normal ships and freighters I haven't run into that I know of...
CADMan Jan 6, 2018 @ 8:27pm
All the exotic ships I hve seen have a small number of slots. Which makes them hard to be able to use.

I have noticed far fewer S-Class ships recently. And they too seem to have very few slots. I have an S-Class explorer with 29 slots, and that is the biggest S-Class I have seen, of any type.

From my playtime I'd say exotics seem far more likely to appear than other S class ships, but granted that might be because they're more noticeable.

I think complicating matters is that often the non-exotic S class ships you encounter might not be so desirable (often lower slots Like S class 30 slot Hauler). I think I've seen a couple S class Haulers but still use my A class Haulers because of slot counts. I saw a nice S class shuttle once, but I was late in game. I can't recall seeing any high slot count S class fighters. It's very rare for me to encounter any high slot count fighters. I have an A Class 37 slot fighter, and can only recall seeing one A class 38 slot fighter but wasn't in position to grab it at the time. I can't recall seeing an S class cxplorer.

One suggestion: if you find a planet with lots of nice crashed ships, explore that thoroughly. I found a couple Class A 47 and 48 slot Hauler crashes that I hold to this day. In hindsight I'm thinking if I explored that planet for longer (or hung out at the planetary outpost longer) I might've come across a high slot class S Hauler becuase the planet was filled with huge haulers. You look up and see fat ships flying over all the time. I'm definitely going to do a search like that if I find a planet with nice high slot crashed fighters, but they're so rare.

I just rechecked in my current gamefiles and still see a "0" in "Poor" systems for S-class ships...

... So, I think for a "Poor" system: Exotics (in "S") yes; regular "S"class-ships no.
And I know for sure what will happen if I change a few of these numbers into my favour ;)

Nice to know S class still exists. I have played over 100h in my current game and seen 1 exotic and 2 small S-class haulers. The exotic I found was before I could afford it.

to add to Marzipan's data, the weighting in the GCSOLARGENERATIONGLOBALS is as follows:
<Property value="GcAISpaceshipWeightingData.xml"> <Property name="CivilianClassWeightings"> <Property name="Freighter" value="0" /> <Property name="Dropship" value="100" /> <Property name="Fighter" value="50" /> <Property name="Scientific" value="50" /> <Property name="Shuttle" value="100" /> <Property name="PlayerFreighter" value="0" /> <Property name="Royal" value="1" /> </Property> </Property> <Property value="GcAISpaceshipWeightingData.xml"> <Property name="CivilianClassWeightings"> <Property name="Freighter" value="0" /> <Property name="Dropship" value="50" /> <Property name="Fighter" value="100" /> <Property name="Scientific" value="50" /> <Property name="Shuttle" value="100" /> <Property name="PlayerFreighter" value="0" /> <Property name="Royal" value="1" /> </Property> </Property> <Property value="GcAISpaceshipWeightingData.xml"> <Property name="CivilianClassWeightings"> <Property name="Freighter" value="0" /> <Property name="Dropship" value="50" /> <Property name="Fighter" value="50" /> <Property name="Scientific" value="100" /> <Property name="Shuttle" value="100" /> <Property name="PlayerFreighter" value="0" /> <Property name="Royal" value="1" /> </Property> </Property> <Property value="GcAISpaceshipWeightingData.xml"> <Property name="CivilianClassWeightings"> <Property name="Freighter" value="0" /> <Property name="Dropship" value="100" /> <Property name="Fighter" value="100" /> <Property name="Scientific" value="100" /> <Property name="Shuttle" value="100" /> <Property name="PlayerFreighter" value="0" /> <Property name="Royal" value="1" /> </Property> </Property> <Property value="GcAISpaceshipWeightingData.xml"> <Property name="CivilianClassWeightings"> <Property name="Freighter" value="0" /> <Property name="Dropship" value="100" /> <Property name="Fighter" value="100" /> <Property name="Scientific" value="100" /> <Property name="Shuttle" value="100" /> <Property name="PlayerFreighter" value="0" /> <Property name="Royal" value="1" /> </Property> </Property> <Property value="GcAISpaceshipWeightingData.xml"> <Property name="CivilianClassWeightings"> <Property name="Freighter" value="0" /> <Property name="Dropship" value="100" /> <Property name="Fighter" value="100" /> <Property name="Scientific" value="100" /> <Property name="Shuttle" value="100" /> <Property name="PlayerFreighter" value="0" /> <Property name="Royal" value="1" /> </Property> </Property> <Property value="GcAISpaceshipWeightingData.xml"> <Property name="CivilianClassWeightings"> <Property name="Freighter" value="0" /> <Property name="Dropship" value="100" /> <Property name="Fighter" value="100" /> <Property name="Scientific" value="100" /> <Property name="Shuttle" value="100" /> <Property name="PlayerFreighter" value="0" /> <Property name="Royal" value="1" /> </Property> </Property>

So you're most likely to find a shuttle anywhere you go.. Dropships (Haulers), Fighters and Scientific Explorers are almost just as common.. then the odds of finding a Royal are far worse.. Combine that with the class probabilities from the inventorytable that Marzipan shared and you can see why a S-Class Exotic is so special.. Unless you're using MoarExotics + CRISPIE; then it's practically a matter of loading the game..

Exotics ships ignore the class probabilities that are set in the inventorytable and can spawn in any economy, but yeah.
You get 7 shuttle models, 7 race specific(hauler/fighter/explorer), 3 others, 3 others and 1 exotic ship model per system

If you have your suit upgraded enough the Exotics work well.. that stats on them are so much higher to me its worth it. I love the fact that mine is so much easier to control and fight in more than anything else. Like 56% manuverability increase from my S class. I have played 200 hrs so far and seen maybe 10 S class ships with only 3 or 4 exotics. Not counting the ones i probably didn't notice not real scientific data there lol
