you know my and couple of my buddies once created a quick outpost on a rust server outside of this "community" and we change our names to the walking dead characters you know as in rick grimes, Glenn and Hershel so we equip ourselves and started shooting up this "community" it was tons of fun hell one of the guys even came up to us to try to surrender and ♥♥♥♥ tons of fun SO THAT'S WHAT MAKES G AMES LIKE MINECRAFT FUN! now can you do the same in No man Sky? NO YOU CANNOT SO THAT'S WHAT MAKES NMS ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ terrible also there is another history about us making a random guy our wood slave but thats another history
I don't play any PvP or coop, it would be like listening justin bieber to me.
So, the fact NMS is only single player, to me is a plus, since I don't buy games who have PvP or coop (even if they have single player too), because Idont want to found any developer who wastes resources in multiplayer.
Multiplayer is a great way to keep a game alive, keep new players incoming and keep the money rolling in, which supports the devs and in the end allows them to support the game for longer which means more content for everyone...including single player.
An optional multiplayer mode in NMS can only benefit HG and the fan base, so I wouldn't sneer at the idea.
I don't support developer who add any kind of PvP/Coop to their games.
I suppose, if it's a sacrafice your willing to make...sad, because there's some great single player games (the mass effect series, Journey, LBP series, Bioshock series, Red Dead, Crusader Kings, EU4, Factorio) with optional smaller multiplayer modes.
Oh and NMS as well...it does have a community interaction multiplayer element after all and you said that of any kind...and HG does support it....so it'll be sad to see you go?
It have to be a very focused PvP or Coop game. NMS is not PvP or coop. Games that focused on PvE are good to me (not the mmorpg though).
Games that have a strong single player mode, and a very light multiplayer can be bought at a very small price.
Of all the games you listed, I've bought only Mass Effect and Bioshock series, however, the first of both were single player only, and I don't like the sequels (was a mistake buy them). Also Red Dead, and my biggest complaint about the game is the multiplayer, for I cannot obtain all the achievements because of that.
I meant my statement towards the console players which is where I've seen majority of the criticisms non-performance related come from in my experience. Also in my experience these people do not enjoy open world games. They like stuff like that Team Ico crap. The actual SONY gamer that would badmouth NMS. Whereas PC folks have so many space survival games already and the folks I game with that play similar titles feel that NMS is a good game with tons of promise and I hold the opinion of people I've crashed 60 million KG ships into planet surfaces with on SE over Sony Pony's and the CoD generation.
I saw the thread and wasn't terribly impressed by the haterade. The problem is some people are too picky. There is already more to explore in NMS than in Space Engineers and Empyrion which is what I would hold this game to. Astroneers to me isn't a comparable game, it seems more to me like Kerbal which is not my cup of tea. I want a first person space game where I wanderlust and carve out my own niche. NMS does that as does SE and Empyrion but NMS is the only one that has an actual game to it IMO. I found NMS to be interesting explore, however I understand why it's style of storytelling isn't for this current generation. Yeah yeah, "repetitive" or whatever else gets hurled at it, but if you want repetitive...Mafia...Three.
So by your definition then, you'd agree that if NMS stayed focused on single player/PVE but added a multiplayer mode that didn't effect single player in anyway, that would be ok?
Cool, because that's what Minecraft and loads of other single player games have. It gives those communities a choice to play in the way they want, which is a great thing for any dev to do and no one should sneer at it.
No.
By my definition, if NMS will get PvP or coop, like Minecraft, I'll not buy anything from HG in the future. I don't care if people like to play PvP or coop, actually I ignore all the multiplayer communties around the Internet and if a review say "bad multiplayer" to me is always a positive thing.
I don't want to spend money to support PvP or coop, so I won't pay a game with PvP/coop at full price. The developers/publishers should split single and multi, and sell them separately. In that case I'd buy their single player game. Right now I don't want to support PvP and coop so I buy the game only when it's at a very very low price, iof the single player really deserve to be played.
Never said I'll buy games with a bad multiplayer, I said it's a good thing.
Usually I exclude any game (on Xbox One, 360 or Steam) with multi/coop achievements.
Minecraft on Xbox doesn't have any multiplayer achievement, so it could be bought at a discount price.
I'll never buy/play games like CoD, Bf, DOTA2, WoW, LoL and all of this (to me) kind of ♥♥♥♥.
Other games depend, if they are very focused on very godd single player and don't have multiplayer achievements could be bought at a ver low price, even if they have some kind of PvP/Coop.
Games like Hitman or NMS have some "netcode", some server side things, but use them to enhance single player, not to provide a way to interact with other people ingame, that's the only kind of online features I want in a game.
