Was No Man's Sky the biggest flop in video game history?

I'm talking high stakes promises followed by a brutal demise at release. Like losing 90% of your player base in less than ten days. As in Spore and Colonial Marines level of let down.

Not talking about sales, but the actual finished product, wich is what gamers should be concerned about. Can't really think of another game worth the title.

No, thats still E.T. The game, as it was followed by a huge gamecrash in the 80's.
But most here prolly are to young to remember that failure.

Runner up must be Daikatana, when someone that had so much expierence making games like QUAKE and Doom, produces a outdated game after so many years in development, with so much bombastic pride of having made the mother of all FPS, and then come with a game thats so horrible outdated... you are rightfully up there as worst game dev.

I can think of at least a dozen more crappier games as NMS..
Doesnt mean i will say NMS is good, far from it, but calling it the worst failure of a game of all time, far by it. other candidates have way more better claims for better reasons for that title.

Star Citizen can be bought and played right this moment No Man Sky wasn't hell your beloved Sean murray went through alot of ♥♥♥♥ to keep this game a secret hell he didn't even wanted to release review copies and we now know why

Yes. Everyone here will say it's not but it really is. No game got such hype before it's launch like No Mans Sky did. The massive hype is the sole reason that this game is the biggest flop of video games ever. Other games were massive flops too but none had the same amount of hype. And as far as flops go hype is everything.

Also I find it funny all these people listing games I never even heard of. fairly old myself. Just because you were disappointed in a game does not make it a bigger flop. The amount of media coverage and internet buzz no man sky got was way higher then anything I've seen in gaming. Some of the games you guy's listed I have heard of but most of them never got TV spots, and blew up the internet the way NMS did.

Neuro Hunter was just terrible. Another terrible disaster, the Need for Speed movie, man that defined terrible.

anyone remember juiced? the great contender to NFS? devs were trash talking around how they are going to take down NFS and become new top street racing game, then had a year of delay excused by need to polish the masterpiece and then no one could believe their eyes how bad it was when released.

It was for most part HYPED by gamers thats why so many of you are confused and thinking it was big AAA tilte which it was not.

How can small indie game developer which it was, being a big flop?

They started with 4 developers very small team then much later it was 10-12 devlopers.

So Indie company Hello Games was not a succes but not even close to biggest flop.

NMS is a huge success. Just has negative reviews.
