I meant one that I haven't purchased yet
go nike on it
-fly to a planet - No
-fly to a station - No
-turn my back for a second - No
-teleport to my base in another system, then return - YES
-leave the system for an extended period of time - YES (just leaving sufices)
basically if you leave the system its gone, if you saved it from some pirates and you go down the planet you lose the quest but the freighter is still there.
Thanks for answering it tho, I'm likely to be asking it again in the near future
The same goes for any of your starships: if you don't summon them they will never 'fly'.
I think this mechanic is not a very good design for this game (compare it to other major space games which have dynamic ship flying, also AI ships) but that's how it goes since NMS game release.
