Do Freighters leave systems?
If I was to:

-fly to a planet
-fly to a station
-turn my back for a second
-teleport to my base in another system, then return
-leave the system for an extended period of time

Would a freighter that spawned in the system when I first entered it leave the system in any of those circumstances, or does it never leave?

Edit: Assuming I didn't buy the freighter yet.

Buy a freighter and it stays in that spot till you leave that system. If you leave the system the freighter disappears so if you come back it's gone! You can summon it anywhere though. so just do that. I even had my ship attacked while I was on a planet and it's cargo pods broken. Re summoned it and they are healed.

-fly to a planet - No
-fly to a station - No
-turn my back for a second - No
-teleport to my base in another system, then return - YES
-leave the system for an extended period of time - YES (just leaving sufices)

basically if you leave the system its gone, if you saved it from some pirates and you go down the planet you lose the quest but the freighter is still there.

Freighters only leave their last position if you summon them from the Quickmenu. They never fly individually except in 1 single case (and I don't call this 'flying'): During a space battle involving a capital freighter when you enter system, if you delay killing the pirates when you are near, then the freighter may warp away ending the battle. There are no other instances where freighters 'fly', and you don't see them flying although you see their engine's jet propellers, but that's only for the show, in fact they don't change position.

The same goes for any of your starships: if you don't summon them they will never 'fly'.
I think this mechanic is not a very good design for this game (compare it to other major space games which have dynamic ship flying, also AI ships) but that's how it goes since NMS game release.
