How the heck do you land on a freighter?

I just completed a space battle and I keep getting the hint "land in lead freighter and speak to commander," along with a waypoint. I fly to the reddish area (which is the only place that looks like it might be a docking area) and I just bounce off. WTF?

i believe in the back of the freighter you can land there like on space stations. but i could be wrong

Same way as you do a space station, find the landing pad (has the blue light)

If it´s reddish still it´s because battle is not finished or got bugged since that docking area turns blue when available.

Landing zone is usually on the "top" of the freighter near the rear of it, like they said it's got the same blue light

do what @rotton said but make sure that that you find a freighter with a marker on it or else it wont be one that you can buy

the first time I landed in a freighter it took me some time becuase I didn't realize how tiny the hole is, it's quite a bit smaller than the entrance to a space station

had that same issue where it wouldnt let me dock

can you actually land the ship now like you would on any decent space sim game or you just get sucked in to auto-pilot mode like in the space stations

The landing system once you get into position is the same as on a station. Note that you cannot enter the freighter from just any orientation like on a station; you have to maneuver until you are lined up with the blue glow, pointing toward the openings (there were three openings on the freighter I landed on).

Bugged for me too, all attack ships defeated alarm and red lights still on.

It's not a bug...if during the fight you hit the freighter (even accidentally with a stray shot), the freighter will no longer let you dock on it, and the entrance flashes red ;) you get barred from landing on it. That's why it's advisable to not shoot at ships that are right in front of the freighter because a shot or laser might accidentally hit it, if it's only a few hits and they don't hit the cargo or turrets it will not spawn sentinels but you won't be allowed in the freighter ;)

Land anywhere so a new save point is set. Then reload last saved save point. Hope it works.
