Is normal play harder than before?
I am trying to restart a normal play game and cant find a planet that is not 150F or more, or -85F or some toxicity that kills you before you can find the materials to save yourself, with no Herodium in sight. I am not an armature at this and have been playing since first release but it sure seems like normal play is getting more survival than the laid back chill that it was once described as.

I've heard people say it's getting more grindy. Not sure about difficulty. As a new player on normal I had a bearable start on a toxic planet. I think luck of the draw could put you in worse situation though.

I've only played since about the past month or so, so can't speak to any change in difficulty. Storms recently have become more frequent it seems than when I started.

Finding a workable planet for a more relaxed play is difficult now, I restarted 25 times and never found one.

All starting planets will have a hazard of some sort, but a mild one. A few tips: Stay close to your ship at first so you can recharge your hazard protection. Once you have found some Iron and Plutonium, install the Bolt Caster on your multitool and shoot down sentinel drones. They will provide you with enough Zinc to keep your hazard protection charged. If you have trouble finding Heridium in close range (large blue pillars) build a Signal Booster from your Tech Menu (default key is Z) and search for a Resource Deposit.

Normal mode is really easy, just keep an eye on your hazard protection, shield and health bar and you're good. And yes, there are planets without bad weather conditions, while starter planets will always have some kind of minor challenge.

Did I mention this is not the first time for me, yes I did, i just said it seems harder than before, not that I didnt know how to play.

OH, thanks for the advice, it shows how helpful you guys can be for someone who is new to the game like I was when the game first launched.

I'm pretty sure it's impossible to start a new game in a planet with no minimal weather hazard.

Now THAT I agree with. When I switched from GOG to STEAM (because updates are easier) I had to restart, but back then you had to delete the Hello Games folder to do that and after a couple of times I ended up with a paradise planet with no weather, no storms and you could see a LONG way even flying, it was great for a first start, then after going to another planet the weather started.

I think the first planet you start on should not be as hard as the ones later even in the same system. Just my 2 cents.

All modes are now far easier, including permadeath. Just the ability to recall your ship from anywhere has destroyed a major component of survival/permadeath mode.

As hard? 150F is literally the minimum weather hazard you can find other than no weather hazard at all...I understand it's normal mode which is basically easy mode but there has to be some kind of "danger" even there, otherwise it would just be like creative mode.
I say "danger" because there should be basically no real danger with minimun weather hazard in normal mode

way way way easier than vanilla, and dumb-ed down with more useless economic/cosmetics... the effect of missions are adding to the grind impression from perception.

The GRIND OHHH the grind.

Space combat is harder. I know I have died more now than before in space.

If you haven't already, build the rockets (one or two shot wonders :steamhappy: ) and maybe the infraknife. The phase beam is stiil useful. The new combat weapons give a lot of variation to how successful you can be in space combat.

With more choice, painful decisions have to now be made in how the multi-tool is set up too. The boltcaster still works wonders fully set up but my bias now is for the blaze javelin.
