21:9 Ultrawide?
Why does this game look like absolute pants on my Ultrawide?
I bought it at launch and at the time had 19 hours of fun/disapointment with no real issue of the game looking like crap...

But NOW! With a i5 7600k, GTX 1070, all the ram I need and everything running from SSDs, and displaying on a beautiful 2560 x 1080 LG Ultrawide curved monitor... and it somehow manages to look worse!

The HUD seems massive, my starter planet is snowish and looks like I should be wearing the old 2 tone 3D glasses.

And I'm absolutely sick of changing the graphics options and restarting after every TINY bloody change!

Do Hello Games hate UW monitors, or am I just seeing things?

Add 3440x1440 and you get a full percent. Remove the chinese PUBG players who probably will never buy NMS and everything goes up. And for the fragmented Multi-display setups you cannot even give an estimated what resolutions people have.

Anyways, other games are more 21:9 friendly than NMS. I had no problem with the Fallout series, a small config file hack and a nice user mod and 21:9 worked. Other games have also no problem to run 1920x1080 in full screen which my screen will upscale (Pillarbox, e.g.Silent Hunter 3). For some reason NMS is not able to set a full screen 1920x1080. So they messed up something.

I am currently playing Battletech. Technically it supports 3440x1440p, but the mouse/screen coordinates are messed up. But this game has no problem to run with 16:9 in full screen on my PC.

Why would you want to run in 1920x1080 on a 21:9 monitor when NMS supports 21:9 with just s slight stretching of the graphics?

FTIW, you should be able to run borderless in 1920x1080, but I still don't understand why you would want to.

Depending on the game, sometimes I run in full-screen windowed mode when I run into display issues. As long as it works, I'll take it.

Case in point, running Crysis on 1920x1080 gives the dreaded "input not supported" when I know it can take it. Enter windowed full-screen mode. Solves the issue. I realize it's an older game, just making a point.

I hopelly that in the new update includes the mode 21:9 :(

Same, the best thing we can do is to keep bugging them and maybe they'll sort the stretched HUD and menu out!

No ones bothering to update the mods that fix it anymore so i either hope this new update makes the game more mod friendly or HG have corrected the issue (more the latter than anything)

LOL..... SO a tweet from Sean that says he's adding ultrawide support to the game by adding cardboard to the side of a monitor is somehow proof that it's supposed to be in the game.....

That is just to funny......:steammocking:

I can't play anymore without proper 21:9 support :(

My preference is the best looking graphics, not necessarily utilizing all of the pixels of my display. I can live with 16:9 in Pillarbox format. 3440x1440 is the native resolution of my display. 2560x1440 is the 16:9 resolution which is my the second preferred resolution.I can live with 1920x1080 if the game is able to set these resolution in real fullscreen mode as my display will upscale this to 2560x1440 with pillarboxes. Sharpness will be slightly reduced. AFAIR NMS was not able to do any of this, it would simply revert to windowed mode.

And stretching 16:9 to 21:9 is not a minor distortion, you are stretching everything horizontally by 31%!

The game doesn't stretch 16:9 to 21:9 it's just slightly stretched. If you're really seeing that much stretching then something is configured wrong.

Can you post a screenshot that shows the stretching you're seeing in 3440x1440?

Okay, it's not that bad as I remembered. Text is not very crisp, that's the worst for me. The compass on top is thinner and less readable.

And I Pillarboxing IS working. Haven't tried it in the last 5 months. Sorry :(

No problem.

That is what it should look like. Not perfect, but not horrible.

i'll never understand why its necessary to game on such ratios that are waaaaaaay out there. it seems like any game discussion i go into the ratio is never supported by default. so why use it?

What an ill-informed comment. Technology moves on, new things arrise. If you're one of the ones happy where you are then fine, thats cool. Everyone else doesnt have to be like you.

Regardless its not "waaaaaaay out there". The ratio is now more popular than ever and is continuing to rise. 90% of games these days support it by default. What i dont get is people like you who feel like they have to make a bashing comment on something that has no relevance to them whatsoever.

because it seems like every discussion i go into for a game i own, someone is stating that the game doesnt support their aspect ratio.

and yes i have seen games that run the ratio, a friend of mine has it and honestly, i cant see much benefit between that resolution, and 4k. im sitting on a 2k monitor now and anything beyond feels like overkill for gaming. Media creation and 3d modeling sure they definently have some potential over a standard 4k monitor. but when i can run nearly anything that comes out in 2k or 4k resolution, i dont have to buy a game, and be disappointed that it doesnt run right on my display, then be stuck waiting for support to happen that may never happen.

fact is, an indie dev is not often going to think about making sure it supports up and coming new age wide ass resolutions out of the box. they are gonna get it working in 4k and lower so it will sell copies.

my comment wasnt ment to bash, its a legitimate question following the pattern i notice in the discussions of various games i follow, all indie dev, all have asked this question atleast once. in any AAA game's discussion i've seen it asked maybe once, and an official response was it was being added in the next patch for the game or a seprate patch i forget which, it was long ago.

I'm probably going to get blowback again for saying this, but the only difference I see is that you can't yet get (AFIK) a large 4k display with a high (> 60Hz) refresh rate. I have no problem with 60Hz, but I know that's important to alot of gamers.
