How do you create biodomes on the ground?
I can build them onto round rooms but I see people are putting them on the ground. How?

Round glass big ones?

Just place them on the ground like any structure.

And if you mean how to access them? Build a door or corridor into it. You will lose 3 of the 16 plant slots though.

Have you calculated how this compares with a biodome on top of a circular room and ladder which also would need a door or corridor to access? I didn't, but something tells me it's worth losing those 3 plants over if you go for max efficiency. Especially if most of your crops are planted outside.

Don't need a cooridor. Just build a circular room and the bio dome on top, put a door and then the ladder. This is the best way if you don't want to lose spots in your bio dome.

IMO it's worth sacrificing the 3 plant spots for the door, rather than accessing from below.

1. If you're playing with unmodded base limits, then door+ladder+circular room+biodome takes up more of the limit than door+biodome. You can put in another biodome to make up for the sacrificed plant spots.

2. It's annoying having to climb up and down every time you need to harvest something.

I haven't calculated it myself, but there was a thread here doing calcs showing detached ground level domes with a door enabled the greatest # of plant slots given the complexity limit. I just attach mine using hallways (I like to stay inside my base) or put them on top of another room, but if you're going max efficiency you might check the detached biodome, each biodome freestanding with a single doorway, to see how many plants you can get that way.

True, but in the building value system you can plant 13 plants for:

40 points biodome
65 points plants ( 13 x 5 points)
5 points door.

So for 110 points of the 1999 limit, you get 13 plants, or just under 10 points per plant.

There is only one better value, but you can only do it once, on top of your starting building. Place a biodome on top of a round or square structure. You then get 16 plants for:

40 points biodome
80 points plants ( 16 x 5 points)
5 points ladder.

So for 125 points, you get 16 plants. If you place it on top of another building that you build, it costs another 40 points plus door (or more) and is 170+ points for 16 plants.

Hydroponics planters are 5 points per plant capacity, so you are already using 10 points per plant, plus the space to build them in. Biodomes with 13 plants each is the most efficient way to go.

Cuboids are 10 points, glass cuboids are 15 points.

When under 1.2, you could grow plants in the standing planters, I had 156 planters and pearls in 42 cuboid rooms, in my freighter. It was a nice way to make money!

It's still not done. I still need to replace a few metal doors with Holodoors, and plant some more Gamma Root, Star--- whatever in the domes, and more Solarium outside. I did have plants in the cuboids before making all the biodomes, but removed them and only have some standing planters in there for carbon.

I initially used x connects and straight corridors to attached the biodomes to, then removed them and added doors for perfect spacing.

I hope I can still put in two landing pads.
