I would say yes. There is really nothing hardcore about it so to speak. So if you wanted to listen to some tunes or something, you wouldn't have any issues.

yes. Its a bit rough starting out on survival and you may even struggle a little on your first few hours, even days, of play on normal, but it quickly becomes fairly easy and then very easy as you gain gear and knowledge.

normal is easy enough that creative mode is really "can I play daddy" mode.

The Creative Mode is ideal for that. You;re able to do the story and missions, everything. No effort is needed to gather resources. Try it.

Once you understand how it plays turn off the HUD in options and just wander across the universe.

Any mode is fun. Normal mode wakes you up once in a while but once through the initial trial and error stages of the early game the hint of realism over creative adds more wanderlust as does Survival over Normal (how it should be played). As you gain in strength and resourcefulness it becomes more chill. The more challenging modes can be very rewarding and a great sense of fun but be patient in the early days.

Permadeath really is chill because it's impossible lol so only play that with a drink :) and start up a game with no expectations. You'll have a few laughs with some friends.

Maybe once in a while listen to the game music from 65 Days of Static. It's been superbly scored for the atmosphere and adds so much. The closer you get to the centre of the galaxy the more amazing landscapes you discover. You can build or change the terrain, make race tracks and curious constructions to your hearts content.

Play with photo mode and all it can do. Some of my screenshots might be interesting to check out if you're curious about what awaits you. Even drving the space vehicles are tremendous fun to pass the time.

The first time you play Survival, the first couple of hours can be grueling to get through, but it turns casual pretty quickly after that.

lends itself very well to both play styles. You can wake up in the morning drink some coffee, orginize your inventory, craft a bunch of stuff, wikipedia how to find and make stuff, build on your base, crank up some music and go wild while you watch your ship fly to the next planet in your underwear. You can also chill out, put on some ambient space music, a podcast if you like, and run around finding new stuff, taking photos, looking at all the beauty.

In the beginnng I used to play with game sound on. But after a few dozen hours I just started to listen to podcasts or watch a series on my second screen while playing. So yea it's entirely possible. On normal this is definitely a casual game.

You can play with a podcast on, but I'd really miss the game sounds. I crank it up pretty loud, so when I'm in a space station you "feel" the ships landing around you, and when a storm hits your ship when you're flying in atmosphere it's like you're really in it. The whale-like cries of the animals around you, the in game music, the sounds of ships overhead. I love the in game sounds and don't want to be distracted from them--they're a big part of the immersive atmosphere.

+1. The audio in this game is very nice and atmospheric. I love all the "thunking" in a busy space station. The storm sounds are great, although I do get tired of waiting them out because they happen all the time on some planets. I sometimes hear the animals before I see them, so it puts me on guard in some areas that I haven't explored yet, but in others it's just nice to hear animal cooing while I'm out collecting Tham9.
