Basically if they buy for 1 million each (about 10% less than average, so -100k or less) i sell, if they buy for less than 1 million each I switch system.
Regarding the jumpranges, after 1.3, freighter always jump more. OFC a fully upgraded explorer or exotic will jump more than a freighter with just the basic warpdrive, but assuming they have the same upgrades freighter will always be better. With all 3 upgrades a freighter jumps about twice the distance than a fully upgraded explorer or exotic.
Also fregithers can't warp to any system (Red, Blue, Green) without warp upgrades.
So basically, if you want to move fast, the only reason to prefear a regular ship over a freighter is when you have warp upgrades for ships and not for freighters.
I had an old pre 1.3 19 slot freighter. I was surprised when I got it as most others I checked were just 15 slot at the time. Any way I jumped all over the place trying to find a hyperdrive blueprint for it and finally went for a freighter visit in one of the Gek systems I jumped to. I ended up getting a FREE 17 slot with a hyperdrive. I had only used a few slots on the old one so minus two slots is fine.
