The base price for any item will go down in the entire system with each item of that type that you sell. So, if you sell, say, 20000 emeril, it'll tank the base price for emeril in the system (both for buying and for selling) so it'll stop being profitable to sell emeril at that system for several days played at least.
The price is system-specific tho, so you can fly to a different system, sell there, which will then tank the price there, so you'll have to fly to a third system to sell again, and so forth.
Its not a proper simulation since buying will never drive prices up. It goes down with each unit of the item sold in the system, and goes back to the base price over time.
With the current system, its better to sell as much of an item in one single transaction as possible (a full ship cargo hold, for example) as every item will have the full price for that transaction, instead of gradually decreasing.
But you'll never do that normally, ok? So that's no problem.
A system is a number of planets orbiting around a star (or a couple of stars), like our own solar system orbiting around our sun, Sol (thus why its called the Solar System), so with each jump you go to a different system.
A galaxy is a collection of billions of systems orbiting around a central point, usually a supermassive black hole, such as the milky way galaxy around Sagittarius A*.
A universe is a collection of billions of galaxies.
When people talk about systems they mean star systems. As in, each star you fly to and the planets around it. The price is separate for each star you fly to. So it's best to just fly from star to star, and every time you find one with an emeril planet around it, farm until your ship's cargo hold is full and sell it all at once. Then move on to the next star.
It's like a galactic stock market. :D
