GTX 980 performance (potential fix, read for info)
Getting around 50 fps average with a 980, i7-6700, and 16GB DDR4 at 1440p.

Several months ago when I last played NMS, I remember changing some settings and maybe something in the .ini that worked for me (I had deleted the game and re-installed yesterday). I tried disabling V-sync and enabling triple buffering in the Nvidia panel, both had little to no impact.

Any ideas? Surely I should be able to get more with these specs lol

EDIT: After trying various things out, I stumbled upon this advice in the comment section of an old video-

-Delete the "Hello Games" Folder from %appdata%
-Delete the "Shader Cache' Folder
-Delete the "Settings" folder also

If you can't find your appdata folder, look up how to do this for your OS on google.

Settings will revert back to default after this, but I had a noticeable performance gain after doing this!

Also, check to make sure Gsync and Vsync are disabled in-game and in the game's graphics settings file.

Deleting all of these folders will not delete your save data.

use TAA and drop textures to high if that doesnt work drop the game down to 1080p

I have same cpu and ram but 980ti gpu and fps on busy planets 40 - 50 fps even if I lower Resolution to 1080p doesn't help much anymore but It's still playable and with this update I want to.

TAA does not increase performance in any way.

TAA does not improve performance in any way but is less intensive than the SSAA that op might be using.

EDIT: it was SSAA not SMAA

The game only has FXAA, TAA (low), TAA and TAA+FXAA

pretty sure i see SSAA listed as the highest form of AA in the settings.

See that really makes me think something isn't right. A 980/980ti should definitely be able to push 60+ at 1080p with ease.

I have a 980Ti, 16GB of system RAM, and an i7 4790k at stock 4GHz, and I also ran into horrible framerates dipping as low as 30fps. I got a refund, but if anyone knows a magic setting to fix performance, please let us know.

Got the same issue. 980, 4790k, 18GB Ram, Framerates drop to about 25-30 when I approach planets. Still poorly optimized.

Well I will report back if I figure anything out. Gonna try looking around more and changing some settings to see if anything works. Really want to enjoy this update without worrying about performance issues!

well you can give my settings a go the keep me mostly above 60 i will list them just i case

AntiAliasing TAA
shadows on medium
motionblur off
framerate max
lightshafts on
Reflections low
textures ultra (if you are on a 4gb vram card high textures instead of ultra will probably give you better performance)

max settings on a 1070.... no lag at all :| 90FPS lock, solid 90 FPS... unlocked, getting over 110.
