Changing weapon modes

I'm sure I missed something obvious, but I can't figure out how to switch weapon firing modes on the mining tool or the ship.

I hit X, which brings up different selections on the bottom of the screen. I then cycle to the mode I want (boltcaster etc) but it won't switch. The options shown are Q/E to navigate, F to charge, right-click to close. Same thing with trying to switch the ship from default gun to phase beam. Everything is fully charged.

I played this a while ago, and don't remember this ever being an issue, X used to cycle through the options. How do I switch back and forth now?

Y on xbox controller or middle mouse button (wheel click)

Thanks, that was it. Not sure what the point of the X option is. But whatever, I can swap now!

The option where it opens the list at the bottom of the screen is to recharge stuff without having to go into the inventory.
