Normal Mode, Starting Planet
Devs, can you make it so the starting planet in normal mode isn't so hazardous. I have restarted over 30 times and have not run across one that I can last long in because the mats to recharge my shields are so far away. I cannot use my tool to blast a hole into he ground because it isn't upgraded yet.

In the past, I have been able to restart a few times and begin on one that was bearable. I have not had this luck today.

If I wanted to play survival mode, I would start that game.

? Normal mode starts you right beside your ship. Just stay close to it until you have some resources.

When normal mode starts me by my ship and I have to run so far away that my lifesupport and hazard shield fails what then?

Collect things along the way to replenish them?

Or duck inside a cave real quick (doesn't help with life support)

I am not stupid. I had over 130 hours when the game launched. I know how to survive. I have been on starter planets where that is not easily done. I am not wanting to play survival mode. I am not talking about after the first planet.

When the game launched, mats were readily available. Now the ones you need are spread out and not having an upgraded mission tool yet makes it hard finding shelter.

I am not saying this to be rude to you or not accept your advice. It shouldn't take over 30 tries to get a planet one can atleast have a little breather on when first starting out on normal mode. I know how to play the game.

Well... not to be rude, but if you're having that much trouble you're either super unlucky or no you don't. At least not how to play the beginning game post-patch.

I have been super unlucky. I know the game you don't need to be an ass about it.

I don't know what to say then. The few times I've started I've had some basic resources (Iron, Carbon, Pu) all within a hundred meters or so. I'd make a dash for one, run back to my ship to recover, repeat. I guess you had a really nasty spawn. Is there a way for us to see your spawn? I'd like to try it out. I remember Survival being nasty but Normal should be fairly simple.

Try not jumping or running unless absolutely necessary. This includes the shurn/punch/jump combo.

If the jet pack is active you get triple arrow life support drain (my guess is this is to promote vehicle use or something).

It might take longer in the beginning, but if you slow walk your life support will last a lot (lot) longer distance now.

As for hazard, you should get 1 or 2 shield shards to repair it. Get the scanner up ASAP so you can scan for stuff to repair it. You may need to even craft a shielding shard if there's low zinc.

If there's no iron, plat, zinc, or thorium within ~5 minute walk of you, then you might really be screwed and need to restart. But that should rarely be the case unless you're playing survival. 0-3 restarts (again, unless you're super duper unlucky...but if you're that unlucky you should probably go find a budda to rub or something).

You get a free shielding shard and likely another one in a box next to your ship.

Thank you for the advice. This has been my experience with starting planets. I am so far away from those basic resources. I have stopped trying after working with this luck. Now I look for a planet that I do not have to worry about those hazards until my gear and al is better.

You can also craft power cells from plutonium and carbon (should be in relative abundance...enough to make cells) and those can replenish life support.

Basically what it sounds like is it's less bad luck and just that you've developed higher standards for a starting location. Similar to how I play Civ games (I have very specific requirements for a starting position in Civ). But you can't blame we can't blame the games for that. That's all on us.
