"Stargates" - is MGM Okay With It?

Just was wondering about your "Stargate" portals - is MGM okay with that?

"Stargate" is my favorite Sci-Fi series, and NMS one of my favorites Sci-Fi games - what an awesome combination...

It has a DHD as well from the screenshot... I don't want anyone to be sued but this one seems a bit tenative at best. I'll be intrigued to see how this goes down.

maybe they will change it from Stargate to Star Gate.. :) like they did with Path Finder update..

They're not called stargates in-game so no reason to change anything regarding the name. That stated, portals are, however, uncomfortably similar to the stargates in Stargate.

MGM does not own the rights to a round ring that transports you to another startsystem or planet. A few games have these; The X sereis (X3: Terran Conflict), Rebel Galaxy etc. The only thing they have copyright claim to is calling them Stargates and the overall design, that's it. They don't own the concept itself. The only thing Hello Games might get in trouble with is the DHD, but that can be easily fixed if it comes to that.

Haha me too. Stargate Universe was cancelled too soon. I know some people didn't like it but i enjoyed it a lot.

The circulating image of the open blue portal with the "glyphs" and the DHD looks like it's artwork rather than in-game images. Can anyone confirm that exact appearance in-game?

Yeah I feel ya, people forget not many shows start out at their full potential and for all its flaws I wanted to see universe to a better end. But enough about could haves and have nots.

Personally I doubt they'd have had problems at this point either way but you never know with things nowadays. I'm gonna go see if I can find one and look for myself.

A "yes" would have been good but yeah, they do exist exactly like that. Wow. Here's hoping MGM are cool about it. If they are sensible, they'll realise it gets the name back into the public consciousness and promotes their "Maybe Reboot".

As to OP's question they aren't even called stargates. They are called portals.
Just stop reaching so hard, you'll strain yourself.
