It is an assumtion but a good one.
Keep checking out "?" sings on your ship scanner and land on outposts... sometimes they have puzzles that can lead to distress beacons which usually mean crashed ships... you can then just "repair" a ship and go on your merry way with your new ship. that does mean abandoning your old ship though..... Enjoy!!
It's just that, not really a spoiler just didn't want to ruin the experience if you wanted to grind a bit
Ideally, i would buy a cheak ship and use this when i find a good crashed ship to swap it with.
Also i read somewhere you can get credits on your ship you trade in, or perhaps pay less because of the value of your ship you are trading in? is this so?
My Explorer S class 38 slot is used just for warping from one system to the next so upgrades mainly in the warp drive As soon as I get to the next system and I mean the next second I call in my freighter and but the explorer to bed his job is done
I have a shuttle A class 28 slot which sits in the freighter and is used for storage no upgrades not even fueled up
I have an A class hualer which is 28 slot this also sits in the freighter as extra storage the freighter by the way is 19 slots
And finally I have a second A class fighter 28 slot which I use for ultra trading sessions on a starship along with my 48 slot suit to make my money on. I do not farm like most I prefer to trade.
So...how did you do it????? I still don't get how to get there.
I don't see how crashes post update do anything for me.All the ones I've seen weren't wortth the plutonioum to land and take off.
What S classes I've found have been at trading posts on planet surface.
So I did at a cost of 38m
My next task is to raise 100m and take my hauler in for renewal
Take note of the system name, and then come back to it later, a full slot S rank hauler is a pretty rare find and you can come back to it later and it will (eventually) show up at that station (or trading post or wherever you were) again, so you can buy it when you have the money for it.
these two are the same model, same pilot name even, at the same station. I've seen this same model listd with half a dozen or more fewer slots, and as low as C-Grade.

I've started marking in my notes about stations that I see ship models I really like, so when I get the chance I can go back to the station (particularly ones a jump or so from my home base) and wait for a high quality version of that model to come through.
Yeah, every station has (as far as I've seen) 3 different 'versions' of each model of ship to buy (maybe they have 4, one for each rank, but I haven't seen any S-ranked ships yet in my game and I've hung out at one station today for like 3 hours hunting for one specific ship in its Class A configuration, S could take even longer to show up).
They're often A, B and C classes of that ship, and each class of ship model X in that system will have a different number of slots that doesn't change. Say, ship X class A has 32 slots. It'll always have 32 slots if its the Class A of Ship X at that station, tho the position of the 'gaps' in the slots will change each time you look, as well as the class bonus numbers.
Sometimes, the A will have less slots than the B, sadly enough.
I haven't paid THAT much attention to follow the patterns. I have seen you can have the same model parked more than once i the same station on occasion though.
I am definitely keeping track of the station I saw the one pictured above at, so I can come get that once I have more money than I know what to do with.
