The difference is one game largely unknown still in alpha is growing and about to surpass the biggest thing in gaming news from last May to August when it released.
Games don't die that fast unless there is a YUGE problem. It wasn't like they were just hemorrhaging fans within the last few weeks. It fell off immediately after the release
The other 100 aren't actually coming either.
empirion development are going actualy quite nice and they never lied about "whats in or not" they are very honest what they will add soon and they workon , and im far more pleased in their game then NMS
it alweys comes a lot to first impresion , and NMS gave worst first impresion as developer , and game
Also NSM is not that special , Spore generated similar size galaxy vaguely and its very old game , elite dangerous has size 1 to 1 galaxy and its more fun then NMS is
Technology does not make game amazing , look at FUEL who was racing game , and created most amazing world generation system who was not surpased anyone for years , but game struggled to get 6-7 out of 10
NSM is same , they have some clever technology , but gameplay is atrocious and boring , there is absoutely nothing to do
Most games who are open sandbox and there is not much to do are often excused becouse there is leveling , loot , more quests and usualy coop
NSM has nothing , you gather recources over and over , explore same looking types of planets with diffrent colors with same robot enemies , with maybe some semi interetsing flora 1 out of 100 times and thats it , same dungeons same enemies same grind
Also "promised what was not in the game"
Additionally he said there would be multiplayer a long time before release; you're not upset that he said there would be multiplayer, but that he didn't say there wouldn't be when that changed during developement, to which it clearly stated on the Steam store page that there is not multiplayer.
As I've said before, multiplayer for this game (true multiplayer to which you don't have to start a server or invite players) would cost a lot of money and in order to achieve this, NMS would probably have to become a subscription game such as WoW.
And as another has stated before, multiplayer really wouldn't add anything, sure there'd be people about, but you'll still be doing the same "mindless" tasks.
Overall, whether multiplayer gets added or not, if you don't enjoy the game for what it is currently, you're probably not going to enjoy it in the future.
You are a prophet after 5 years almost everything they promised is in the game and even more. Yes, they lied initaly about the content but: So what? The game is great. And yes they it was an error and a mistake to lie, but I think for myself Hello Games an Sean Murray redeemed their guilt more than once.
