And buying supplies becomes important once you have other businesses going as well, stuff like special cargo or import/export.
I would upgrade equipment even over hiring staff, since the quality improves and supplies last longer.
Don't buy the security upgrade though, it isn't worth it. It doesn't prevent raids and you pay a bit more daily fees.
