how to lose the cops?

I accidentally triggered an alarm and ended up gunning down several drones and cops but lost all my agents...bought the game at launch but got really into other games at the time so just getting back to it am now a total noob.

You just have to stay out of combat and lay low for a while and they will stop searching for you and return to regular patrols

Staying out of combat usually means just absolutely legging it for as far as possible with your guns put away (Default [Space]) if not in a hostile area (Shown as red sections on the map). Or you can duke enemies with the doors and hide in obscure places they wont see you.
