Really wanted to like this game. Lovecraftian StS sounded pretty good and it is definitely nice to look at and listen to, but sadly the gameplay makes this pretty unfun, namely:

- The deckbuilding isn't fun. There's barely any synergies and since you start with one of the six pre-made decks of a character (or just build your own at the start), during the run it's really just picking more cards that do what your deck is already doing.
- Card upgrades with different paths sounds exciting, but most of the upgrades are minimal stat-upgrades and not every card even has multiple upgrade paths. Plus this makes it so that prolonging fights is encouraged since then you can upgrade more cards.
- Prolonging fights is often a good strategy. To upgrade cards, to heal with beast master, etc. It's not fun, but it's efficient. And the game doesn't really punish you for it. The enemies don't become stronger during fights (like they do in StS), so there's no feeling of urgency when fighting.
- The meta-upgrade tree makes you stronger. This might be a plus for some people, but I don't like it in deckbuilders, where imho it just feels better to get further in the game, because your knowledge and skill grows.
- Metacurrency is earned during runs by sacrificing in-run currency (money, fuel, getting relics that don't do anything but give meta-currency), meaning that you either unlock meta-stuff slower or play at a disadvantage during your first who knows how many hours.
- Relics, equipment and consumables are rather boring. Same as with the cards, they all just do sort of one-off things that aren't all that interesting and don't really synergize with anything else.
- Bad RNG. For example there's a relic that gives you a 50% chance to earn money. Taking a relic and then just not getting anything just feels bad. There's also equipment and other relics that just have a chance to work, which is just annoying.

Possibly other stuff that I forgot. So yeah, sadly can't recommend this, even though it looked really good.

Easily my new favorite deck builder roguelite/roguelike game.

Love this - kind of Dark Dungeon style. Entertaining story, reasonable metaprogress in Story mode (roguelite), and a real challenge in roguelike custom game.

Varied characters and card decks, entertaining combat, very well-done art and music.

My only minor caveat is with Act 4, which consists mostly of fights only and feels kind of unbalanced, especially if all enemies decide to target the player at once; it can be game over without a proper chance to build up. Still love it and highly suggest it to any deck builder players or Lovecraft setting enthusiasts .

This was a really fun game. It took me a long time to beat, however, that was a good thing in my opinion. I really like the story as well. It is one of those few games that manages to be kind of scary, in spite of the fact that you can really take your time with it, and the only jump scares are in the cutscenes. The game is fun enough, that even if you're not the biggest fan of Lovecraft or even horror in general, you may enjoy this
