I have no idea what I'm doing
I started a new game and well my groups are getting wrecked after a couple of time. I try to manage the stress inside and ouside the dungeons but I'm running dry of money and I can't upgrade buildings. Any help?

There are several ways to get things going in this game. One important thing is to upgrade your roster size so that you can recruit extra heroes - that way you can just let stressed peeps recover in town. So set up an A, B, C, type team setups and alternate who you bring.

If you need some extra heroes at no cost - you can google the backer hero names - which you can recruit for free from the stage coach. Just open the coach - hit enter and a search bar will appear - and you can input the name you want. Couple of examples, Reznik (houndmaster) and Chronos (Leper).

If a mission is going sideways don't be afraid to retreat. Early in the game it does not really matter as such - as the game will give you more heroes if you lose people quick. As it goes on it gets easier to manage with minimal loses if your cautious.

Try to not get wrecked in the dungeons, failure in combat is the root cause of your problems.
If you dont have the money to treat people toss them away if you are still very early in the game.
Try stuff, note what works and what doesnt.
Find out what enemies you need to focus first in combat (Stress dealers) and build parties that can do that efficiently.
The struggle in the beginning is the true fun part, embrace it while learning the ropes very slowly :D

A thing I don't understand is mission progression. When I embark and go into a dungeon, it seems to trigger some kind of progression in the exploration. What do I do if all the dungeons left are level 2 and I have no group that can do it. Am I ♥♥♥♥♥♥?

Dont worry, that progression is only for unlocking bosses, you will always have dungeons on the right level available.

Another major cause is that the first dozen weeks or so are possibly the hardest in the game. If you're also a new player trying to learn the game, then they're utterly brutal. My first game I actually ran out of money at week 10 or so. Couldn't even afford to buy food.

Later you have the guild open so you can tailor skills, you have a bigger roster so you can tailor your groups, and you'll have trinkets.

Among other problems, right at the start is the only time you have to underlevel your missions - sending level 0s into level 1 dungeons.

Also antiquarians have a couple related secret abilities. That can also help. Finally there's a couple core tricks to winning 100% of your embarks, but the first is boring and exploity, and the second is pretty samey. I preferred the game when I didn't know about them, so I'm reluctant to mention them. I certainly can if you want, though.

Meh i'm trying to beat the game without sheeting or being cheap. Yes it's pretty brutal at the beginning but what I'm bothered with is that nothing is explained.

Nothing needs to be explained. You'll figure it out.

With the exception of curios. That's just rubbing everything on everything. There's very little real logic to it. Doing the rubbing thing is extraordinarily expensive - it will never pay back on the estate you do it on. Just look it up, or ignore them almost entirely.

Then read more. Tons of great starter guides out there. Helped me immensely.

I just want to point out that that curio guide is outdated. Most of the info should be correct, but it has information on curios that no longer exist and may be missing information on certain curios as well. It's better to use the curio page on the wiki, which is relatively up to date.

Thanks. Can you elaborate further on that please?
The list was updated not that long ago (May 19).
I'm a new player (around 50 hrs under my belt) and I don't own any of the DLCs, but so far everything seemed accurate.

It's really only a couple things- the Locked Strongbox still being listed even though it's no longer in the game is the biggest one. I didn't realize how recently it had been updated (to be honest that's probably more recent than the wiki page). Still, I personally prefer the wiki page because it sorts the curios based on the region they appear in rather than in alphabetical order, which makes it a lot easier to find specific curios for the dungeon you're in.

Go to the mod workshop and download inventory expansion, increased quest rewards and there are also some mods or in-game options that dial down the difficulty such as no corpses being left behind and mods that prevent sanity depletion while walking in dungeons if you choose that route. And don't listen to idiots like Francis who say that you're not getting ahead due to you and you alone because we all know that the RNG in this game is broken. I doubt that there's a mod that helps with the Fisher Price RNG unfortunately or at least I didn't see one.

Sounds like you've just started out and yes, without a doubt there is a deep learning curve in DD that you're going to have to learn solely thru trial and error which will cause you to lose many many soldiers/teams. I have about 115 hours on and off and I'm barely figuring out which teams with what abilities are OP. I think a difficulty setting is relatively new, I'm playing it on radiant and I suggest you do the same.

But yea downloading the inventory expansion with quest rewards is a must have because otherwise you'll never have money to level up your town, abilities, equipment, stress/ailment relief etc.

You don't need any of those mods to get the gold or heirlooms you need. You just need good resource management and decision making.

I've beaten the game multiple times and never used any sort of mod to make the game easier. I won't shame anyone for doing so, but to claim it's impossible without mods is simply incorrect.

...and this didn't kill my estate. It went on to down every boss that existed at the time.

Don't listen to anyone who blames their horrible results on anything but their own bad play.

I just want to understand the game better and beat without cheap cheats or "hacks"
