Patrols Trial Logic Bug

Doing the patrols trial and sometimes after putting down a piece, some squares are marked with the red, indicating that they are blocked and will provide reinforcements. The bug is that I can still put pieces there, they aren't blocked off. Even if I put a pieces to cover up those squares, they provide reinforcements to the enemy at the end of the round. I'm not sure of the exact conditions and it doesn't happen all the time. Anyone else seeing this?
