Appending Recipes and removing vanilla ones

Ok so I am new to the new modding system we have now, with the mod folder and being able to change recipes, items, etc without actually going into the default files and adjusting, which is what I am used to. I am attempting to change the recipes for the iron and steel tools. I have done so but now I have both my recipes and the vanilla recipes in the menu. How do I go about removing the vanilla recipes so they do not show up without going in and removing them from the default files.

The short answer is, use “remove” instead of “append”. xpath syntax isn’t unique to 7DtD, so any reference material you find on the subject should apply.
