How do you build roads?
I asked this on another thread, but the thread was about something else. So I thought I'd put it out again.

I tried to make a road. but when I lay down gravel (or asphalt) it comes out as a pyramid sticking out of the ground. I tried to hold R and change it but nothing happens. How do I make a road?

It's not pointless if one wants a road. I've built lots of things only because I wanted to.

But yes, if you dig up the dirt and then replace it with asphalt, or gravel, it will go in flat.

there was a couple of spots where the mountains just tore up my 4x4. Want to put a road through there. Not a great option, eh?

Thanks, seven!

The shape of the voxel makes it look like a little pyramid but, keep adding more around it and it will flatten out quite nicely. This works well if you've already flattened an area, as in, you've dug out a layer to make the elevation even like a trench through a small hill. Use your wooden frames over the top of the road to help level things out, as well. Just lay them out then pick them up. They will raise the ground a bit where it needs a tiny nudge upward, or flatten it a bit where it needs to be a bit flatter. Give it a try!

A word of caution here. If you're trying to do any change in elevation via this method - like paving over rough mountain terrain to create a gentle incline - it'll be a huge mess. There's no smooth function, so you'll have stair stepping that's as bad or worse on your vehicles than what you had before. So you're better off making a *flat* tunnel through the mountain. And align it north/south/east/west to save yourself another, smaller headache.

P.S. Thanks for starting a new thread for a new topic.
I've made sections of road previously... it helps when doing speed run of 4 traders on 1 sugarbutts as I wanted smooth out some sections and fill in a few holes for straighter lines.

its not to hard but you just need to be aware that connecting it at ether end can have little bumps pending on the elevation of the blocks you start and finish on.

Also, you can use wood frames to lay down and smooth out when you get bumps and dips. Then if you want to get a more smooth affect instead of a stair stepping affect.....use a stone shovel and damage / dig it a little. it will reduce it. Sometimes you get more or less what you're going for and sometimes not.

If you take off too much, you can also repair terrain blocks, like other blocks, to build the shape back up.
