Best way to find a trader?
After the first trader from tutorial, i find it really difficult to find another one, even with a minibike.... i think im just simply looking in all the wrong places, i do a nice circle around each hub/town that i find.... does anyone have a tip on how to/where to find traders easily?

Beyond using the XMLs to find their coordinates, you just drive around on the dirt/gravel roads. The larger the map, the harder it is to find them. You'll run into them much more frequently on smaller maps.

And unless the option to preview a map has been taken out, you should be able to view the map before creating it and therefore find out where traders are in what general area, with x, y and z coords.

I just use the map previewer to find them. It's a bit tedious zooming in and moving the map around in that viewer, but it's still faster than actually driving all over the map in game looking for them. They're usually on the outskirts of cities on the gravel roads, and on the 4000x4000 small maps I've been playing on lately, they've always been somewhat near the center of the map. Once you've found one, you'll know roughly what size rectangle to look for to find others elsewhere on the map. This is all for RWG maps, of course.

Eh, even the map previewer is slower than just looking up the coordinates in the prefab XML. It gives you exact coordinates you can go to and find them at. Very reliable as long as the map was generated in the current version.

They’re the only places in the game that fly flags on tall flagpoles, so look for those. Also, unless something’s changed recently they’re only found out in the wilderness, not in town.

how many traders spawn on RWG? is it all five or can the number vary?
Chaoslink Aug 17, 2019 @ 10:05pm
Pretty sure its a set 5, meaning bigger maps just spread them out.

i typically never find more than 3 of them, but its hard to 100% especially with 17.4 wasteland recursion

So, I did as Chaoslink suggested for the OP and looked in the prefabs XML for both the co-op game I play with a friend and my solo game. I found the 5 traders listed in the prefabs XML for the co-op game. But in the prefabs XML for my solo game it doesn't list any traders at all - even though I've found 2 so far. Um, WTF? settlement_trader_01 through 05 in co-op. My solo game XML goes from settlement_01 to skate_park_01 without a trader listing.

Opened, copied, pasted the whole XML into Word as text. Eliminated blank lines. Copied and pasted the whole XML into Excel. Sorted and searched. I know 2 exist but they aren't in the XML. Anyone have an explanation? An idea? A wild guess?

Was the world the save was generated from generated from the current version of the game? I believe older generated worlds don't display properly in the XML. Not sure entirely though as I haven't tested these things consistently, though I have had a few saves where it was inconsistent.

I made it when a17.4 came out. Oddly, the co-op game is from an older version of a17.

The prefabs XML was not in the solo game folder but was in the GeneratedWorlds county folder. Even though it is the right county, will that not have the right prefab listings?

Picked up a Mod called Trader advertisements Adds a magazine to the game found where you normally find magazines and mostly in mail boxes.

When activated will give you a quest with a marker to the NEAREST trader, so best to get some distance from the ones you already know.

Usually find 1 or two in 20 ish days, probably could find more if you were to check all the mail boxes.

They really need to offer occasional quests to deliver a package to another trader. Something like the usual fetch quest but with a different turn in location to show you where other traders are.
