Keeping voice chat always on

I feel like I'm the only one who is bothered by this. But how do I enable the voice chat to where I don't have to constantly press and hold the button down to talk?

This may not bother anyone else, but for it is annoying to have to constantly press down the V key in order to speak to my friend. Especially when it's something urgent like a zombie is eating me and I have to shoot it and call out for my friend's help. Is there something I can do to just toggle voice chat on so that when i speak it's instantly activated?

It's in one of the option menu tabs before you launch the game.

Be aware though. Unless it's been fixed recently, having voice chat always on causes the occasional PC to experience some lag.

If the in-game voice chat doesn’t float your boat, there are other options. You could do audio chat through Steam, without having to download any of the standalone apps that also do this. And yes, you could set that to push-to-talk or open mic.
