Put something your height behind one.
Get on the other side at the angle you need and take a few shots.
Check to see if it took damage.
This is due to purely to the range of angle error in an oncoming shot being significantly greater than that of the shot you're sending out.
You have close to a 90 degree angle angle of fire from which you can successfully hit enemies, but they have more like a 2-3 degree angle of fire in which to successfully hit you. through that slit.
With that said, most zombies don't have ranged attacks to begin with. Cops do- But cops also have an AoE splash so you'll still take some minor damage if they shoot at you when you're hiding in an arrow slit. But for the most part they shouldn't aim at you up there, they'll be focusing on something else...usually. Ish.
I'm only asking because I recently started trying out Darkness Falls and those horde nights are *nuts*. I had a good perch set up in my base from which I was controlling the ground enemies... until I saw that the enemies come in 'type waves'. At a certain point, you keep getting the same types of enemies in a kind of set pattern, and so far, every night past the first has had a 'cop wave'. So at least 4 to 6 cops all puking in your direction. Sure their aim isn't great, but it's been making keeping the choke point covered a lot harder.
Add to this that the last horde I played through decided it would be fun to have a 'cop and puking vultures' wave, and... yeah. I was getting shot from all over where as you say usually that's not an issue. i was thinking of adding some arrow slit walls if they would still let me take shot through them while reducing the number of hits I was taking, and the main reason I was asking is that even on wave three, nothing short of concrete is gonna cut it with that amount of firepower hitting it.
I haven't even reached the stages where actual demons with fireballs start showing up...
I'm sure there are some blocks OUTSIDE of the game that could save me, lol.
