Metal Pipe Flange???

Question: what is this bulky metal tube for?

Honestly, it looks more like aesthetic item for a fake water pipe systems or something. I was so confused I even had to look up what "flange" even means and it's "a projecting flat rim, collar, or rib on an object, serving to strengthen or attach or (on a wheel) to maintain position on a rail."

Is this for a future update for water, or, again, is it just aesthetic like paintings and chairs? Is it useful at all for base building?

I looked everywhere for answers and all I could find was an old thread asking where to find them. Nothing else on what they do, if they do anything, etc.

I do believe is just for scrapping. I don't think I ever seen any other use for it.

There are regular, non-flanged metal pipes too, at least in the creative menu. From a level art standpoint, if you're building a pipe (yes, for aesethetics) it looks better if the end of it that goes into a wall has some trim around it. That's what this block is for.

Well, you could make a wall out of pipes, and they would slow down zombies like any other weak metal wall. So they are as useful as many other blocks, they just lack the aesthetics to use them that way. :)
