enemy spawning off?
right, ive been trying to figure this out for a while now as ive experimented with multiple different worlds and got different results very time
does turning the enemies off spawn the basic unzombified animals like wolves as ive had enemies off and ive still been randomly attacked at my bases by wolves, im yet to see a bear though, and ive noticed the only 'friendly' animals that seem to spawn are rabbits, chickens and very rarely a deer, even rarer than that a boar, not even bobs boars have the spawned in pig NPCs that litter the place yet they still spawn here and there on the map, usually at the start of a new game as soon as you load in and maybe if your lucky once or twice in the deadlands biome (where you can get coal from harvesting trees)
the game really doesnt make this clear and really should already have something that allows basic animals to spawn in or atleast make up for the lack of zombies on the map by replacing them with more animals, logical since the world gets retaken by nature (since you wont have zombies with enemies off)

Unfortunately, Direwolves/zombie dogs/bears/lions will not spawn if enemy spawns are disabled. Predatory animals are included in that, though, on occasion, a normal wolf or two will show up. All other animals (friendly) do spawn. However, they are constrained by your settings and the RNG. If you've killed everything in an area, they won't be back for a few days. You'll need to go elsewhere, wait a bit for spawns to happen, then hunt for them.

I'm sure this is part of letting you get to the point where you are ready for the zombies. Get yourself outfitted with armor and weapons, and turn them on at Scavenger difficulty, change their run speed to all walk, and take your time getting to learn how to fight them. I did this with my grandchildren, teaching them how to survive, and they let me know when they were ready for the zombies, and had a blast for their first horde night. Just be patient with yourself, and you'll succeed. Take all the time you need, but understand that, the higher your gamestage, the harder the zombies will be. Be SURE you're ready when you do turn them back on.

I am currently playing the game with "enemies disabled" settings for a good survival experience and for building ambitions. Since I miss the feature to play the game without undead spawning but with all the other wildlife which should include hostile animals as an option, the occasional attacks of seemingly rabid dogs is very welcomed and appreciated by myself. Please, devs, let us have the possibility to enable hostile animals spawning! Please, please, please... (And as icing to the cake, maybe you could add cheese (I luv cheese, Cheesus Crust!) as loot or recipe from lootable milk...?)
One could tweak the amount of animals - hostile or friendly, up or down - through modding the game files. We have a Modding sub-forum, if you’re interested.

sorry this has taken so long to reply to, i understand how it all works as ive explained im not an amateur at this game haha, im simply testing these mechanics as its always confused me as to whats what as its the only thing on the game thats niether fully explained and because of the fact that random wolves spawn can really be frustrating to a player that turns them off specifically to build lets say in my case a replica of a pharoahs tomb or the attempted remake of the paris catacombs, im not one to go to much into the coding of the game so modding it for me would be very rare ALTHOUGH i do currently run 4 mods simply to make the game more realistic like meanclouds fishing mod (absolutely recommended) which adds a fishing mechanic aswell as tools such as a spear, two fishing rods, and fish traps to the game as well as new types of food related to the fish you catch, the rotten fish you can catch is also handy as you can scrap it into rotten flesh, zombies are actually pretty trivial to me as my prefered weapons of choice are the stone sledge hammer and a bow, easy to make, easy to fix, does a good amount of damage to all types of enemies, and their quiet ;), the stupid amount of screamers is why i turn the zombies off, who can build while being constantly harassed in areas that you know full well should be very clear of zombies for miles around, also adding into context each zombie types 'line of sight' and radius for hearing you, logically these screamers should be rare as it makes 0 sense that they make a very specific B-line towards heat sources that really they shouldnt be able to even know they existed, it makes sense in the blood moon however as from my perspective the blood moon ridiculously buffs their senses, its not a bother, i definately agree that they should add the option to specifically turn off zombies only, aswell as hostile animals as technically yes they class as enemies, but they yet again are only animals which would boost the amount of animals on the map, which would make sense due to the fact of there being less predators other than the usual pack of wolves or a bear which are territorial creatures, animals like wolves and such tend to stay away from human buildings unless they know VERY WELL they can get to whats inside, basic instinct, i mean you wouldnt try to get a sandwich outtve a steel locked lunchbox unless you had the tools to beak the lock quickly as it would take too much energy just for a meal that really you know wasnt worth the hassle

That's kinda frustrating to hear it'll still poop out random wolves despite aggressive animal spawns otherwise being disabled along with zombie/enemy spawns.
