Speaking of.
The main reason it likely isn't working is simple. When you connect any one thing to another the wires used are all one-way with how they send their power, so you are likely trying to connect the fence to the generator (hence the error message), instead of the generator to the fence.
When you hold the wiring tool you can see, among other things, which direction the power lines will be sending their power in.
