I tried it in creative first, before installing in my real game.
Break it and craft new one
Place the door from outside- Opens to wrong way
I hate my life
Problem is, you can rotate the item before placing. So, say you have a door, you rotate it to open opposite direction from default. Now, you place that and select a garage door to place next. It may not be in the default orientation at that point. It should be but, is it? This maybe a bad example but, sometimes rotating one item then placing it, will set the orientation for the next item you want to place.....if it is a like item and put in same inventory slot as last item. I don't believe it's supposed to do this but, I've experienced it happening....not sure if it was a setting at the time I may have had or what.
I believe they have added green arrows now
What makes you believe that? There is no any indication which way you place rolling up door, I have been actively playing latest update A20.4 and I have not seen any green arrows on doors or hatches.
For the roll up doors the facing doesn't really matter. They roll straight up.
Garage doors are the ones that end up a 90 degrees to their closed position and you have to get the right way round or they'll look wrong.
I haven't used garage doors in the last couple of minor builds, so I'm not sure if arrows have been added or not, but if they have you'll only see them on garage doors. They wouldn't mean anything on other door types.
