steel armor parts vs military armor parts

Ive found over 100 military armor parts and only about 20 steel armor parts
is this normal?
Mind you can only craft lvl 5 armour so finding armour is better than crafting anyway

I think it is because i have 130 Military parts and less them 20 steel armor parts.

Yes, but can you find ALL of the pieces of that high level armor ? At some point maybe, but you would have to play pretty long and at high game stage I would think.

Allowing the player to have the parts lets them have the ability to craft it sooner than finding all of the pieces for the whole body.

I have found 387 mil armour parts by day 70 on one of my maps... i have 7 steel parts. I have had to just start scrapping steel armour of tiers 2+3+4 to get parts to make my own instead of selling them... unbalanced AF :D

Steel armor is still considered top armor in the game, so it's understandable that they might be harder to find and craft it with.

Military armor is great also, but it's light armor, and of course, steel is heavy armor.

Also, do you think there was a bunch of medieval knights running around in full steel armor at the end of the world, or maybe mostly soldiers with light armor, holding checkpoints and fighting off hordes of zombies, before becoming one themselves ?

oh aye, just in the scheme of things, id expect it to balance as a "tech tier" or loot tier of w/e you call it. It makes military armour far more viable, when it should be an equal as the top tier in its respective tree. In terms of balance... its just way skewed over, i was selling the mil parts as junk to buy cheap steel armour from traders to scrap just to get enough to make my single set. God fobid trying to equip friends in multiplayer :)

And a counter thought, is it easier to scrap metal in a home built forge and cast into viable steel armour, or re-purpose scrap fibres into fully functioning kevlar? :)

I can definitely see your point in MP especially. I can only assume that the devs want it to be harder to be a tank early in the game. They want that to be for later in the game and maybe it's more balanced in their eyes. Just my assumption though. It would be nice to just say "I spent the points, so let me make what I want", and I can understand the argument.

As far as crafting it, that is a very good point. But as far as finding it or leftover parts of it after the end of civilization, then I would expect to find more military armor.

It's odd in that its rarity sort of invalidates its own purpose.

And those potions are soooo expensive, too. It does seem like most of it is in favor or light armor, or scrap or maybe iron. Since you have to have steel parts for steel armor, it really does seem the devs want that to be the harder to gain armor for the player.

I'd just like to note that Iron armor already has more damage reduction and effect resistance than Military of equal quality last i checked. Light armor sacrifices in those categories in return for less movement/stamina penalty reductions compared to heavy armor.

Just 'cause it's harder to get steel armor doesn't mean you should just avoid heavy armor till you can get steel. :) It's a game of tradeoffs- Do you want to take less damage and get crits less often, Or do you want maximum mobility and not have such a hit to stamina regen?

Personally, I can't seem to force myself to play a character specializing in heavy armor, as I always seem to fall into light armor builds.

It's like the joke in Skyrim, how so many players end up with a stealth archer, no matter how they plan to play.

initially went in to strength so had ability to craft steel armor only managed to craft 1 lvl 4 part
now have found lvl6 steel armour chest and leg possible cos i specced into lucky looter
