Map seeds names question
I have found online map seed with a name "Billion Dollar Club". It says "This seed is well balanced with near perfect biomes, cities, towns, and traders." So how can I use that seed/map, I just write Billion Dollar Club in the seed name and i will get that map? I don't understand how seeds names from different players are connected?

Think of the seed name as a literal seed. When it is planted, no matter who planted it, it will guide the RNG algorithms along a certain path as at every point where something needs to be randomized, the algorithm will turn to the seed and ask 'wat do'?

The result if this is that in a purely vanilla game environment, whether you or I use the seed "ABC123", We will get the exact map. (We'll get some differences if either of us have certain kinds of mods and the other doesn't though, like the ones that add additional POI's to the poi list; But thats not really relevant to vanilla play)

So yeah; Just put that name into the seed section; Capitilization and spacing matters.

Thank you very much for clarification! I understand now. You are brilliant and very helpful!

Just another question if I may. But how someone knows what kind of map will certain words / seeds produce? Why seed with a name "Billion Dollar Club" produced "well balanced map..." etc? That seed was predesigned in the game then? I can see people recommending certain seeds. These seeds/maps where all designed by game developers and put in the game or what?

Seeds can be any series of letters or numbers, and is parsed by the random world generator as explained before.

As for how they know; They try out seeds, see how the world looks, what kind of buildings it has, biome layouts, etc- And then if they thjink it's a good map, they share the seed that made it.

There is also a previewer in the ingame map generator, although it's a bit laggy, and some files in the actual world directory that can let you see the biome and road layout; and the list of POIs generated into the map.

In short: Lots of trial and error.

Thank you! Now I understand all :)

I need to point out one thing. If the info for a seed is from an alpha that's prior to A18 it will be very different than it is now.

The reason is that the RWG changes quite a bit from alpha to alpha.

OK. That's very useful to know. I will try to find seeds for A18.

I have no intention to turn this in to a good seeds thread... but, the best one I've come across and am using right now is named "80085" I've found seven traders so far, and in between them all is a huge massively sprawling city.

Ok, I think I will like that map. In Navezgane there are only 4 traders. Thanks for the tip.
