Zombie death fall
I'm digging a trench but I want to make sure it's not a waste of time.
The Idea is to make zombies fall so far that they die and I get the Xp.
Does anyone know how far I need to dig?

I'm not sure exactly how far you need to dig to have an effect, but you should know that zombies cannot die from a single fall since a patch in A17. I think they changed it so that the enemies take no more than 1/3 their life in one fall, which would mean you would need to have three really large drops in order for them to die. Of course, you won't get any XP at all if they die from the fall itself. I imagine what you are wanting to do is have two very large drops to severely weaken the zombies and then finish them off yourself.

I've seen zombies survive very high drops. Digging trenches deep enough to kill them would be a monstrous job. You'ld probably be better off trying an overhanging cliff build. I've seen a video on youtube where someone successfully did it.

Zeds falling damage is limited to 1/3. Means, you have to build a 3-stepping-falling-pit where they have to fall 3 times before they die. I guess 3x50 should work.

^^ This here.

The fall pit exploit was mostly removed a few versions ago. If you aren't killing the Z's, I'm pretty sure you won't get the experience though.

As has already been mentioned, a single fall won't kill zeds anymore. In A16 you could still do it; but it was changed in A17.

Here's a test that Capp00 did in A17 about zombie fall damage if you're interested. As far as I know this test is still relevant in A18.

I haven’t experimented with fall pits much. So while we’re on the subject...
  • How many falling zombies, if any, break their legs and turn into crawlers?
  • Do soft materials, e.g. hay bales, break the falls of zombies, or only players?
So...
Max Fall Damage = .33(Zombie Max Health) [Falling can kill Zombies]
or...
Max Fall Damage = .33(Zombie Current Health) [Falling cannot kill zombies]
?

The video Aesir shared shows zombies dying after consecutive falls, and we don’t know of any relevant changes to zombie behavior since Capp00 did that test. Ergo, we can assume it’s one third of the zombie’s max health.
