7 Days to Die

7 Days to Die

Any similar games?
I love the tower defence aspect and the fact that you can repair/upgrade for 1-2 days then explore for 5 days before coming back to defend your base again on the 7th night.

The days are fun and the nights are tense (also fun).
The game is best in multiplayer and is the best multiplayer FPS I've ever played.

So I'm looking for similar games that can also be played in co-op..

Minecraft is the obvious contender but it has no tower defence mode and exploration is samey and pointless.

The closest match I found was Terraria but the tower defence aspects are lame as the enemies teleport inside your base, and there's no traps or turrets that you can place to dispatch them.

Factorio has turrets and supply chains and I like that you can automate all of your resource production and it is really stable for an alpha (even in multiplayer); probably the most bug free alpha ever - they just need to add more content to make exploring worthwhile.
The only issue aside from lack of content is needing to read a wiki and watch how-to videos each time you research a new tech eg. electricity, trains, fluids, nuclear, circuits, etc. and there are a lot of hotkeys and shortcuts to remember which makes it difficult for my wife to play with me

So far my wife and I have gained the most enjoyment from 7D2D, followed by Terraria.
Minecraft was empty and pointless, while Factorio was overly complicated (but I'll encourage her to give it another shot). Civilization was very slow-paced and waiting for each other to finish turns is not fun - realtime games only please.

We might give Don't Starve Together a shot but it really doesn't have any tower defence mechanics aside from the hound attacks which can either be melee'd or killed with spike traps - again there is no variety in traps and no turrets.

Others I can think of are Project Zomboid (though this may be too hardcore for the Mrs), rust/ark/dayz (but would prefer co-op vs AI instead of PvP). I believe Ark has password-protected multiplayer but unsure of any base defence /tower defence features.. (also Ark would not run on her machine anyway - the optimisation is worse in Ark than 7D2D).

Also, factorio and DS2gether are top-down which is ok, but FPS is best for immersion.

Perhaps the only contender would be The Forest. Will have to check if it has more content added.

May have to look into Farcry - plenty of combat and crafting in co-op but no building or defence. Dead island may be worth a shot too, but the crafting is a bit too silly.
Dying Light may be an option but again crafting is limited to items and weapons break WAY too easily forcing you to constantly be in menus - at least there is a real threat at night (worse than ferals).

Empyrion galactic survival. Great game and the most similar I’ve played to 7d2d. Awesome base building, ship building, your base gets attacked(not as good as 7dtd) and planets to explore. Still in EA

That game looks breathtaking, but some of the reviews are humbling..

Well, one of the reviews.

This review alone sells it for me:

"I was playing at "7 days to die", then I saw the stars and I went to Empyrion.
This is the best survival crafting space game ever. If you can think it you can do it."

In the end, I went ahead and bought 2 copies each of Empyrion Galactic Survival, How to Survive 2 and Dying Light. Will hit up Dying Light first, followed by Empyrion and dig into H2S2 if we get bored. By then there should be a new 7D2D update out! Thanks all!

There are no games other than 7 Days to Die.

(thunder/lightning sounds in the background)

...

Well ok, yeah there are.

If you've got the hardware and the reflexes Dying Light is really good.

Be advised that the expansion is a shameless driving simulator but the base game is very good.

Crafting system is pretty much "mash two things together and use the result".

No building at all and no base defense other staying near safe houses during night.
After you level a bit you can go out and fight in the streets even against that games version of a Feral.

(i really should use this as a review at some point...)

I played it once and found that weapons broke REALLY easily - like after killing 3 zombies.
Am I playing it wrong?

yea , you get perks to upgrade your weapons later so they wont broke that easy. Dying light is 100% worth it with friends , Im not a solo player so I dont know about playing alone tho.

Like Ry3er said.

You don't really craft but you find/buy better quality stuff, get perks that increase your damage, etc. so you can stretch how long your gear lasts.

You loot so much stuff that eventually it stops being an issue.
Not really similair but I recommend giving Dungeon Defenders 2 a try if you like tower defense games. At the very least will probably help kill some time while you find something similair plus it's free and you can both play together.

Thanks! I saw this. Looks like FPS tower defence which is great, but no world to explore; no survival features; no crafting; no building sandbox (aside from traps turrets); but it does have skill trees. I'll put it down as a maybe.

Someone also PM'd me and mentioned Unturned which looks like fun (and also free), with the ability to host private servers (albeit with great difficulty).
i found another 2

"maybe" Planet Explorers , it looks nice but i dont know how similar it its

and Empyrion galactic Survival ,its 7days2die but in space

Looks like Dungeon Defenders - could be good.

This looks a lot like 7D2D except to play a private game over LAN you need to pay the devs a monthly fee to rent a server; no thanks. Also, more bugs than 7D2D and glitchy building.
Someone else recommended this to me via PM due to this thread but explained a few of the downsides.

Sanctum 2
Looks like a bog standard tower defence game with playable walls and turrets. Multiple lanes mix things up but again no world to explore, no survival or base building, judging by the videos it doesn't have any skills or perk trees.

How to Survive 2 seems like a good mix of zombies, crafting, base building, defence, levelling up,
etc (except it's top-down, not FPS).

I would love if this was multiplayer (and if they didn't charge people again for the final patch).

This is true.

Still a bit cautious since they were so "thankful" for the Early Access backers and promised them all future updates, then turned around and made them pay for the final update.
