Bicycle, the new engine of destruction
So, I didn't play the Beta. Just got to the point of making bikes in my co-op game. Turns out, if the Bicycle goes NEAR any of your ♥♥♥♥ it just deletes it.

I was testing the bike out and now we just lost 2 nearly full chests of fairly important stuff. Because a regular ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ BICYLCE with rubber tires and no Mad Max ♥♥♥♥ on it at all just deletes anything it comes near.

Super awesome.

I agree bicycle shouldn't do that much block damage.

There's a fairly straightforward workaround though - don't run over your storage chests.
Darbie 2019 年 1 月 2 日 上午 12:06
I didn't. I drove near them, and they both just exploded. Either way, the way the Bicycle works is pretty stupid. Any realistic expectation would have it riding over things like that, not exploding them and leaving nothing to find afterwords.

Sure. so the workaround is - whatever you just did, don't do that.

It's not the bikes fault. You are just way too fat and everything crushes by the gravity of your accumulated mass.

I think they made it that way to stop the vehicles getting snagged on entities as you drive around. Because the world is voxel based the surface flatness changes are not smooth so its very hard to get things like vehicles to move across it well and things like rocks, plants, rubbish piles and your chests would just stop the vehicle in its tracks. Bets solution is to just have them destroyed.

The fact that your chest where destroyed without you actually hitting them could be down to de-synch.

I thought it was odd when the bike destroyed rocks rather than just go over them... ya know... like in real life. The bike is worthless anyway. You can sprint just as fast as the bike goes and both consume stamina just the same.

And his point is-he shouldn't need that workaround.

I disagree. The best solution would be for vehicles to run through bushes, junk piles and a lot of these other 'soft' blocks, but slow down in the process. The blocks can be damaged too, but I don't like the all or nothing approach where the only options are to destroy a block or hit it like a brick wall. Pushing/knocking the blocks around would be nice too, but since that doesn't play well with voxels, I think the slowdown is the way to go.

Its worth it for the early game extra storage when you are exploring/looting.

Good point that would be a better solution.

And the very first thing I said was I agreed with him the bicycle shouldn't do the block damage. :) Reading is fundamental. Maybe try it just once before being snarky.

You beat me to it, Another bike plus is that ontop of the limited storage it moves much faster then on foot when encumbered so its useful for clearing a POI even if its not actully that much faster overall. Its also halarious to play zombie pinball when you "sprint" into them.

No, you are very incorrect on how the bike works for both speed and stamina consumption.

Encumber yourself , and then see how useful it is for early game.

It really worth the perk point early on i think. As you say it makes clearing houses much easier.

Wait. Do you mean you can actually use those greyed out squares in your backpack??? :D
