Agreed, a few good things, a few that are "meh", and as always with TFP there are going to be a few really bad things (luckily some are going to have toggles).
Need more zombies? No, even though that wouldn't be a bad thing we don't need that.
What we actually need? Better gameplay, better progression, better core systems, better survival mechanics.
But they're getting lazy with the endgame content. Look guys we made the radioactive zombies blue now. Look guys, we made the blue zombies red now.
I really didn't want to believe they'd do it, but here we are..
"A sandbox game is a video game with a gameplay element that provides players a great degree of creativity to interact with, usually without any predetermined goal, or with a goal that the players set for themselves. "
Unless they'll make 7dtd a corridor-biome-like-storymode-linear game, it still counts as a Sandbox game, since you still have options of where to go, what to do, build or not, etc.
Yeah, some elements narrow the game, but those never changed the randomgen Open-world idea of it.
I only hope the new updates WON'T hard force players to move to another biome. Since they're adding a story at some point... i think that forced we will be... kinda.
Hell, I'd be okay with just one of those things. You know we won't get it, though. They want Diablo/Bloons TD.
I think what would make me enjoy this game more is having a real threat. Make the zombies into a real threat where I have to consider if it is worth it or not. Like having hot zones of thousands of zombies in one area that moves around. This way the player has to scout, pay attention to their heat more, and force players to move if they get overrun with the undead. I know, most likely will never happen. But if State of Decay can make that work then it isn't impossible.
I read most of it as more busy work / slow down for early game, with stronger zombies shoved into the end game despite there still being a lack of endgame progression added to balance the new challenge.
Yeah, you are pretty much right. It's Diablo-like set items with D&D dungeon crawling mixed with tower defence these days.
What drives me nuts about 2.0 is things like this that they plan to add:
"Craft consumables to increase your temporary biome elemental resistance."
They are adding more and more silly magic items instead of adding logical survival related items to the game. Why would I craft a magic potion (or whatever it's going to be) to go into a cold biome when I can just wear a parka, gloves, scarf, toque, and snow boots? Or... I could if they hadn't removed the clothing from the game...
... but this is just the same crap they've been jamming into the game for the last 5-ish years or so and they're removing logical survival options (biome appropriate clothing for example) so players have little choice but to use these silly new items.
