Personally I prefer forest. I just like the greenery. :P Wasteland is fugly, burnt lands is bleh, snow biome is alright though..but not my first choice and lumberjacks are annoying.

The wasteland is great to build in... until it gets dark. :D

Desert. Clear biome that allows to snipe hordes from afar.

I prefer the Forest, you get plenty of early wood with the ability to replant as you clear cut. There is also more water in the Forest areas. If you keep the trees cut back from your base/horde bunker you can still get good LOS for sniping.

Forest or snow. Forest for easy wood, snow for visibility/meat.

Forest, but more specifically near the border with the desert, because I want my oil shale. I miss the days when there were more biome-specific considerations like that to make your base location more important.

Junction of forest, desert and snow if possible. If not, forest/snow. The snow is nice for hunting.

I don't consider the biome too important when building a base, but if I can get the base near either of the snow (for collecting snow) or desert (for oil shale), then that'd be a nice bonus. I mostly want to be in or near a decent city (2+ Tier 5 POIs), water (boiling snow takes forever, but it's still a decent option), and a Trader (or two).

What is 2+ tier5 POIs?
I just started playing a week ago.
On day56.
No loot respawn so my evergrowing need for gas makes me wonder if its time to build a new base near the desert for oil shades...

I noticed zombies digging in the upper layer of dirt. Can they go through rock as well?

Water isnt my problem. Always a water source i drop by and i can fill 100+ glasses. ;)
But my motorcycle is demanding alot of gas.....

If you are playing on Navezgane, in the SW corner of the wasteland is Clunky Oil Factory. Lots of gas barrels in there.
