Never playing vanilla again
I got so sick of the flip flops on systems. I think the skill based system was the correct way. The more you do something the better and more experienced you should get with it. Use magazines to learn how to craft better but your skill goes up with use. There is just so much of it that is unrealistic and unfun.

Then I found afterlife. Holy crap. Its tough not for newbs but its EXACTLY how 7DTD whould have been made. It makes the pace of game slow enough you actually have a purpose for everything. All of it is realistic. Even the walker sim is so cool, you can clear a town out and then its empty until stragglers come in.

They should hire these people because they just get it. The right amount of balance. Add in some random gen good stuff. Loot is where it should be, and have its right uses. Forge and metals are realistic. Costs are realistic. Everything about it is 10x better than vanilla.

It still needs work but after playing something like this how could anyone actually go back to vanilla? I knew modders would save the game, but I mean I didn't think it could get this good.

I've only ever played vanilla but fan mods can be exceptional for older games and not just this genre, racing games etc.

This makes the game scary, fun, and rewarding with each progression. The progression in the vanilla game is so fast you never spend any time in any biome or base or have purpose. This game other than the end game has a purpose. Like so much of it don't want to spoil but its what this game SHOULD have been.

Redbeard is freakin chad developer. Working his arse off to try and work around the limitations tfp have and improving the cpu usage and frame rates somehow. Guy is a waterfall of ideas on how to take this game to the next level honestly they should hire him

With witch mods are you playing?

I mean, vanilla is probably really good for a random group of friends.

I do not play with any mods, but I have basically every difficulty setting maxed out.

I have gotten used to playing like that, and it is hard to go back, unless playing with friends.

Its called "Afterlife" and you can get it on the MOD launcher. There is a discord too, one of the few game discords thats actuallt not a bunch of pompous pricks

On and off. One of the reasons I don't use Nexus.

I find the mod launcher works best for overhaul mods and "7daystodiemods.com" works better for mods/modlets.

Only AI Bots and Non-Humans...

For me it´s Darkness Falls, it´s always a pain to wait until it get´s updated after a patch.

Maybe it will be Rebirth in the future, let´s see how i like it, i am not a fan of classes if you are being bound to certain weapons if you want to to fully utilize your class. But i still have to test it.

Afterlife is sadly a no go for me. I can´t play without a map for the life of me. Set me in the middle of a forest in RL and i will find my way. Do it in a game and take away the map and i am lost af.

Also i think the progression is a bit too slow. At least if you want to sell your game to more than just the hardcore survival players.

I don´t think it would have been such a success as it is now if they would have made the game like afterlife from the beginning.

And mods is where you will turn down difficulty settings again. Darkness Falls, Afterlife, Rebirth, Ravenhearst, War3zuk all overhauls that make the game harder.

Spawning in and having to run for your life on day 1 7am because there is a radiated direwolf right at your spawnpoint or demons that spit fire at you while running on nightmare speed no matter your settings. Fun.

Thread cleaned up. Please avoid discussion of politics (which extends to social/culture war issues), as this is against forum rules. The topic is Afterlife and other mods versus vanilla.

So you don't like the vanilla version and prefer mods. Ok, cool. I'm glad you like the base game foundation and modding structure put in place by the devs in order to enjoy the Afterlife mod.

TFP doesn't care whether you play vanilla or not because you are still playing their game and that's all they care about.

Also recently found Afterlife and it's everything I always wanted 7DTD to be, absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing top quality work seriously.
