Campfire not warming me?
It gives me the "you're near a fire" icon but the temp just keeps on falling. Last night it got down to 23 degrees and I got early hypothermia while sitting right next to a fire.

Doesn't seem right?

Is there any difference between a cooking fire and a fire that's just burning to provide heat? I was cooking at the time, does that matter?

Same thing happened with me. I was indoors too, yet my temp was still dropping, the temperature system needs work.

Yeah I've had this. It stupidly sucks. The only real solution is to get better clothes and/or move to a better biome that has more realistic temps. I've started about 3 maps before I found one with reasonable biomes on it.

Ive read somewhere that someone made 4 campfires in a snow biome and that worked.

And i have encountered something funny: Been in a house, temp drops.

Go 3m ahead standing in a door: temp rises (pretty fast)

if you have a decent shirt/basic pants- cloth gloves/at least cloth head armor or hat/and at least cloth footwear- the fire will keep you warm enough not to freeze to death- gives you just enough to run to a nearby tree to keep getting fuel- b ut by that time youll probably be noticed by a zombie....it s tough -especially early on without the right clothing.

yeah, this. Multiple campfires is a solution. Silly though. Hopefully it's further balanced.

This also has an affect indoors for people who don't know. If you have multiple forges and campfires in a small space - it will heat up faster and much hotter than a single fire. I had to create vent holes in one of my forge rooms as the room was too hot to work in. I made a double ceiling - cut out a couple vent holes above the forges and put iron bars in them - the heat from the forge rises up into the attic space I made -and then out a vent hole into another room.

I like how THAT part works^ - but standing practically on top of a fire shouldn't make you freeze to death in a matter of seconds. Just needs more balance is all.

Yah I didn't really want to settle in this cold of a spot but it's the only water source for miles around. I may have to re-build my base at a lower altitude but still within reach of the water. The nights up here are just too damn cold (with a broken campfire).

Nice tip (for now): If you take water with a bucket you can make your own (small) water source next to your base. Filling your jars will empty the water source but somehow refilling your bucket wont do that (or at least not always) so 1 bucket with water should be enough for an infinte water source.

Or settle close to a snow biome, snow is easy to gather and can be used to get water at a campfire.

check your armor and clothing . some have positive insulation some have negitive , if your wearing say a cowboy hat , sunglasses, bandana and iron armors your temps will drop reguardless of the fires your around . if you wear cloth armors they are more insulated as well as leather , is a good idea to keep your armor making balanced so no matter the biome you can make armor according to your surroundings .

Didn't for me! I can't stay long in the central hub in my seed, it's just frigid. Fully dressed and 4 campfires and still dropping. Just outside of the hub is a fired up wasteland, I usually get fully dressed and wait until my temp is close to 100 before entering the hub to forage.
