Concrete update was re-designed for a number of reasons. You aren't likely to see the old system return.
Wood log spikes were removed due to an exploit. They are buildable now in the current block system, but no longer deal damage. A block like that doing damage is not likely to return because of how it screwed up AI pathing, and was exploitable by rotating it 180 degrees vertically.
Can't build a fancy house in the apocalypse without them fancy doors
Although surely they would have found a fix for them, instead of removing them? Unless it was more effort then what it was worth.
It doesn’t make sense to remove things when you could instead fix them.
Plus all you had to do was build a field of them, upgrade them to stainless steel and you didn't have to ever fire a shot at them. Was too overpowered. You could put them lining your walls and never have to worry about them busting in.
I remember that. Hilarious. XD Especially when it happened to the pole dancer zed.
You say it like it was easy back then lol. you had to build many spikes and zombies would run at you from every direction smashing up all your spikes and wall randomly.
Now you need zero spikes, none at all, just a small raised corridor, with a few concrete blocks brought from the trader and it's game over day 7, because we have smart path finding zombies.
You might be talking about the electricity system. Hanging wires are drawn between electrical components (e.g. generators, relays, and anything that takes power), but only while you have the wire tool equipped. I believe it was decided that this looked better aesthetically, though not drawing them most of the time probably marginally improves performance too.
If you are talking about cable-shaped blocks between big utility poles, I don’t think those were ever a thing except for within a POI here and there. If you’re talking about the shape I’m thinking of, it was just a flat ‘card’, and they’ve been updating those kinds of shapes with better looking, more 3D replacements.
