Its definitely my preferred mode of play but each player is different.
Some play single player, some play a mix, some only play multiplayer with friends.
I did play with some Twitch streamers/groups several times during A15 or something like that but it wasn't for many hours.
I am primarily always a SP gamer. I don't like/thrive MP. Even when I played WoW, I played it alone/solo/ignored the group events. :P
Edit: I do play LAN the Borderlands series with hubby, but he's special. Hardehar.
Playing with strangers is the worst way to play. PvE with strangers being second worst, and PvP being worst, obviously.
I feel ya buddy, but I would play this solo even if I did have friends, just the way I prefer it.
i mainly play as * single player * but i do this on online public or closed servers the *servers* section got some good servers listed you do not have to play with others when going online .... but it brings life to your game to have others running arouind doing stuff ... i highly recommand NOT to join a PvP server though as there is some bad bad servers out there where it seems some have a * Rust * kind of playstyle .. aka steal as much as you can from others.
i am on 2 servers right now 1 that are a closed kind and invite only and 1 open to all and it is very different playstyles i must say but both are very fun.
i have in the past visited servers that was down right .. dunno how to explain it other then out to get your money avoid at all cost servers that try to * sell * you stuff .... lotto tickets or premium service ... just log out and find another.
it is all down to what you are looking for really. but it is wise to read the server rules before heading in. some has your claimblock decaying after as little as 5 days offline time ...others have it set to 30 days.
i can really recommand trying out online play but pick a server with a big map and rules you like
If you like that horror aspect of the game tho, play singleplayer. you cant combine scary games with multiplayer that just not works well
yeah kind of skipped that part in my post and if you play over longer time it turns into a race to make enough ammo for the next horde night unless you just mass run tier 5 infested clears. and remember that times ticks all the time when there is people online so you often have shorter time to gather materials before next BM.
I added NPCs via NPCmod so my game doesn't feel so lonely. My current base now has 7 or 8 hired NPCs guarding from wooden towers, it starts to feel like something.
95% of the time solo for me.
It's not really by "desire", but more an "obligation".
Because every time I want to convince friends or people to play this game, I get this kind of response:
- But it's ugly! It stings my eyes!
-How? I have to put everything in "Low" to have a minimum of IPS? But what is the optimization of this game?
-It's been in Alpha for more than 10 years and you have no goal except to do some quests and build a base?
-Ouuuhhhh... The interface of this game is horrible for crafting or otherwise... It's as bad as Skyrim!
So yeah...
I would like to invite people to have fun together, but the "showcase" of this game in 2023 is clearly too "weak" to convince people...
